for example, "My mom says I can adopt this cat if I get x amount of followers"? I just saw one on Instagram, and it just greatly annoyed me. Like, that is NOT how you earn privileges. At least back in my day, you saved up to adopt a cat. You didn't just earn it by looking for clout on the internet!

They probably just say it to get followers and attention. I highly doubt an actual parent would tell them to get more followers just so they can supposedly adopt an animal

i don't have social media so i don't see them, but i prefer to think they're not real for the kitties' sake. they deserve a companion who adopted them thinking of their wellbeing and not of social media followers. and if they're real... well then that's one shitty parent to tell their child they can take care of a living being when they get an amount of people following them and not when they have enough resources to provide them with a safe and loving home.
