What do you think of self diagnosis?
I personally see no issue with it but whenever I hear
this brought up it's always a very split debate.
I think that self diagnosis can be a double edge sword if you don't do it properly
For example I'm self diagnosed with dyscalculia or math dyslexia.
This is for a number of reasons but also because the diagnostic criteria
is overlooked and not often given despite how common it is.
I never gave myself this diagnosis to be special or unique but because I wanted to understand myself more and have an explanation for why I functioned the way I did. So If you think I'm not valid, I don't care because my self diagnosis isn't a quirky trait to put on my Carrd or something I use for validation.

It varies on the person so much. Particularly when it’s used to be ”different” or “edgy” or whatever. People can have a good enough sense to self diagnose themselves with certain things, but the reason it can be more questionable is because while some things can be clear enough (ex. Someone who’s severely depressed diagnosing themselves with depression based on a lot of research) a lot of others are not so simple that a 10 second google search will give them an accurate enough idea of what it really means to have those conditions. More often than not trained professionals do know more because they've dedicated a ton of time to learning about those conditions, which is why I would tend to trust the professional over the person who thinks they have the condition. I have said that I feel I most likely have certain diagnoses, but that was based on a lot of research and I was also aware that I may be wrong and just misinterpreting things, though in the end I did have those things (according to professionals). So in summary, I dont think everyone who self diagnoses themselves is wrong by any means, but I’d be more sure that the person with a professional diagnosis has it than someone who doesn’t have a professional diagnosis, especially if they’re trying to act manipulative or special because of it, though I’m well aware that isn’t accurate 100% of the time either way.

I got mine from health professionals.
self diagnosis I am not a fan of.

Because when you own up it could be seen as exaggerated,
as what happened to me in my mid 20's.
