I divide performance into categories a bit differently. On the one hand, there's what I would call 'real' performance, where you get more than you would from listening to a studio track. IMO that's pretty rare in the kpop world, at least among girl groups, and it's usually the forte of stronger and more experienced talents, but it doesn't have to be. Loona, a group that's technically just three months old, spent the past weekend delivering really refreshing performances mostly without vocal backing tracks, accompanying themselves on instruments, and covering a wide range of artists as well as their own songs. Sure, some of their performances stood out much more than others, and they made a small number of mistakes too, but overall it was such a completely different and far more engaging experience than their eight weeks of literally the exact same stage during Hi High promotions.
Which brings me to the other kind of performance, one in which you could get the exact same thing or better by listening to the studio recording or watching the MV. This includes nearly all music show appearances, whether or not you can hear the vocals and regardless of whether those vocals are any good. I don't even watch Mamamoo comeback stages on shows like Music Bank or Inkigayo because of how little room they have to really show what they can do. And it's not a knock against groups that don't do much more than this, as it comes down to the fact that companies are generally unwilling to expose their groups to the kind of risk that going off-script in any way poses, especially given the nature of fandoms, antis, and social media in general. I'm sure you can imagine what kind of shitstorm would have been created if it was a more high profile group like Twice or Blackpink making a couple of innocent mistakes in their shows instead of Loona.
