Thing is, though, when you fly into Vegas you see miles and miles of desert. Then out of nowhere there's this city with lots of lights, air conditioning, pools, fountains, golf courses, etc. A lot of energy and water are wasted used up in trying to keep Vegas going.

Isn’t that true of basically every city in a climate with some kind of a difficult environment? Desert cities need water and usually air conditioning. Cities in very cold places heed heating and other important adaptations. Cities in hurricane prone areas have to rebuild all the time. Is Las Vegas excessive? Yeah. They have money, and they spend that money. They’re not the only desert city to do so. And many non desert cities also have very apparent excess spending too, but in different ways. Besides, I meant that its location and large airport give it pretty good access to national parks, not that I like Vegas to begin with, because I don’t But if you eliminate Vegas, many US national parks do become harder to get to.
