Do you agree with what he said? Personally ive always felt bts were huge cause of army and not so much them. They have a medicore song like on and still does well regardless so bts can release anything and it will do well. Not to say their music is all bad but i personally think the reason they are big is cause of the 10s of millions of army. So i get what he was saying by American audience theyre that group spammed on Twitter and shoved in their faces and thats where their fame is right now.

bts are famous because people like them. period. there is no other reason. they got famous for being liked and then everyone wanted to know why they were so liked and it led to them being more well known and getting super famous
but in terms of being good at music, having great albums or being a visual standard...i dont see that in them at all

I kind of get where you're coming from and you're right, they are very famous because of their huge fandom. But they wouldn't have attained such a huge fandom without putting out music and providing content that people liked. It's sort of a cycle.

Also I believe that BTS do have lots of talent. Even if they put out songs which I don't like or other people don't like, I don't think you can deny the talent that they have because it's obvious to see in their performances imo

BTS wouldn't have gotten that fandom without talent though, they got attention from their concept and dance routines. Lately they have gotten more famous cause they are famous, but that happens with almost all famous artists. More plp will check them out cause they are known. Pure talent is never enough to make someone celebrity.

I stan my groups because of their talent and music, but lets be real, a lot of kpop fans are here for the visuals and for the entertaiment. Kpop is a hobby for a lot, even if it sounds weird.

People like bts for a mix of reasons music, personality, messages, theories, talent etc. Also just because it is mediocre to your brother doesn't mean it's mediocre to everyone else, we all have different tastes and we should accept that no matter how "noise like" or "generic" the music is. You are allowed to have your opinions, but expect everyone else to have opinions as well that might not match yours. Tbh the reasons I said about why people like bts can be applied to almost every group, people are just attracted to different personalities, different genres etc.

The thing is, they got popular through both music and talent. They got more popular through their personalities and interaction with fans. Their fandom grew and such. BUT at this point it is no longer any of that, the fandom isn't growing, the people listening to the songs and liking them are exclusively ARMY's and others that before gave them a chance when they made a comeback hoping for a nice song, but weren't ARMY's, just aren't interested and don't care... cause the songs aren't that good... They just became so influenced by the popularity that it's what shapes them now... It's not their fault exactly but your brother said it correctly.

And to everyone saying they are famous because they have a big fandom... not what the Op or her brother meant...
