What was it like to come out to your family? (1 Viewer)

I did it one person at a time in the order of who I thought would be most accepting to least accepting. It took a span of three years for me to come out. I felt ashamed of my identity for a while but now am proud. Hearing homophobic comments from a specific person didn’t help any ​

It went down so bad, that I had to change my sexual preference for them to talk to me.

I finally came out to my parents as pansexual in my early 20s. It definitely could have been worse. My mother assumed that meant I was never having children. Which I never planned on having kids anyway but still. I don’t know how she got that out of the conversation but ok. My dad’s response was yeah I always knew you were gay. Lol. I don’t think it was until they noticed I started dating people of various genders that they realized what pansexual meant and that I wasn’t lesbian. My grandmother and aunt took it well. My grandfather however is very homophobic and I could never come out to him. He still doesn’t know to this day.
