basically what caught your eye (or ear) first about your ult groups.

Riize - that Shotaro and Sungchan were re-debuting with them (I was briefly an NCTzen while I was testing the K-pop waters)
Twice - their bubbly personalities
TXT - they literally had me at hello
Kiss of Life - Belle's Ariel hair
Seventeen - the way they sing and perform

visuals? I mean we generally see a group's members before they even release a song no?

knowledge? we kpop fans tend to check out big4 new group's debuts more than non-big4 groups???

We do see visuals yes, but that doesn’t mean that it has to be the first think that interested us about them. After all, if that was the case, wouldn’t everyone stan almost everyone in the kpop genre?

Oh and I remember that for Vixx, their song coming on shuffle on Spotify (I think it was Eternity and the closer) made me want to listen more to them

but our preferences differ...for example I prefer a classic beauty like your jisoo/irene/tzuyu of the 3rd generation but to others that might be seen as bland...beauty is the eyes of the beholder...

and I did put visuals in question marks but I do think knowledge is more the first thing...since for example I know we both like itzy and what turned me into them in the first place was the fact that they were the new GG from JYPE - twice's little sisters and also the knowledge that chaeryeong from sixteen was going to be in the group

But even if preferences differ most people would find most kpop idols attractive right? But also why does knowing how they look mean that that has to peak your interest, even if you find them pretty? Going with the Itzy example, I definitely thought they’re pretty but that didn’t make me want to check them out more, it was other things that made me actually interested in learning more.

I guess the thing with pretty is one is more likely to check out attractive people (I use attractive instead of pretty since there are many different types of attraction) - like for example in Itzy - I don't find Ryujin attractive (that's attractive to me) because of my personal choices - doesn't mean she ain't pretty or that she might be attractive to other people

even in dating for example - everybody might claim I like them only because of their personality but the question is how does one determine who to get to know in order to get to know their personalities? visuals???

I can understand your logic, I just feel like people noticing idols for the visuals and checking them out for that reason isn’t as prevalent as some assume. After all, even when considering that some idols will be even more attractive than others, most would find most idols attractive, and that’s a lot to check out just because of visuals.

I agree it's like visuals at first sight???? lol
like you can notice the visuals/pretty/attractive member but that might not mean sticking with that member or even that group...
I do think there is usually more required in order to fully commit (to stanning/fav) a group than mere visuals but like I said about dating - maybe looks and visuals is the first thing that someone noticed...it might not even be the most important thing...
maybe it's the dancing/singing/ personalities/group dynamics

Taeyeon's vocals in 'Genie'. The song was catchy, but what gained my attention was Taeyeon and her vocals.
