So on Friday my mom was nice enough to take my credit card and go pick up my kitties steroids while I was at work, I got home, took the medicine out and threw the bag away. I kept meaning to get my card out of my mom’s wallet because I’ve been needing to get gas but kept forgetting. Today I drove to the gas station first before I went to work only to realize I forgot to grab my card. I texted my mom to help remind me to grab my card out of her wallet. She ends up calling me to tell me she put my card in the bag that had my cats medicine in it… You know, the bag I threw away on Friday.

I realized though that the garbage truck had emptied our trash bin on Thursday, so my card was still somewhere in one of the bags in our large bin. But my mom just wanted to cancel my card and go get a new one Which to me just feels like it would make it more difficult.
Once I got home I looked through the trash and my card was right at the top of one of the bags, took less than 2 minutes to find.


But, now I wonder what others would have done in this situation, dig through the trash knowing that your card is in it or cancel your card and go through that whole process.
Theres no incorrect answer here btw ​

It wasn’t exactly the same but one time at an amusement park I was carrying a paper bag with trash in one hand and my medication bottle in the other and my brain malfunctioned and threw the medication in the trash instead. I thought for a second on what to do but since the medication landed on a piece of cardboard or something else clean I decided to grab it from there because I didn’t see another good option, since I doubt I would have been able to get replacement ones for that medication and I’d need to basically be off the medication for a while which I wasn’t a fan of the idea of that. It turned out fine in the end though

I would most likely tried to find it first, and cancel it if not found.

cancelling a card is easy. At least where I live.
They just send you a new one in the mail.

Well, since your mother was confident in her answer and not stammering, I would have immediately checked the bag.

If she was stammering, sounding like she was unsure, then, I'd immediately cancel my card even after surprisingly finding it in the bag.
