I just give money.
Most of the times the couple only want money and they’ll decide what to do with it later.​

I normally pick the gift based on what the couple likes if I know them well. For example, I once got a lot of cooking/kitchen things for one of my friend's weddings, since she really enjoyed cooking, so I got her things like recipe books, a coffee maker, toaster, frying pans, kitchen utensils, etc. I do also try to give them personalized things as well. If I don't know the couple that well, I try to give them a pretty decent amount of money.

I don't know about other countries but Cash is acceptable and a good idea. You have a couple starting their lives together. Usually dirt poor because they wasted a bunch of money they could use for a honeymoon or HOUSE... If you insist on gifts I usually do something for him and her. When I got married and we did all those lists everything we got was practical, boring, and for my wife... I put a few tools on those lists. The husband is there and needs a few gifts that are useful to him. The furry handcuffs are for me. Every hears about them and feels uncomfortable... thus I get invited to less weddings...
