I've never bought from Lashkaraa but I think I will now.



For context. Oh Polly is UK based western clothing brand.
They put out an outfit being modeled and had hashtags like #occasionwear #prom #summerdress #maxidress

The outfit in question which is the first one in the video, looks very familiar to a lot of South Asian girlies >.>
This kinda style is not common or "a new trend" for western summer or prom fashion.
It's a Sharara or Kurta Lehenga....

Lashkaraa, a South Asian clothing brand, called them out for the lack of acknowledgment and advertised one of their own shararas (the second dress).

This is nothing new tbh. These styles silhouettes didn't come out of thin air.
You've got Coachella "boho" fashion with bindhis and hand chains, the infamous Scandinavian scarf that still has me laughing.



Say where the inspo came from instead of trying to rebrand and paint roll over it.​

good for them! in general i think it's really concerning how big brands go as far as stealing designs from other businesses and pretend they were some "trends" they came up with. obviously it's not the same case here but still i'm glad they were called out.

I googled it just now and.... well... that doesn't seem Scandinavian to me.

Just to further explain.
"Scarves" worn with dresses got labeled as Scandinavian chic by some influencers and it took off making South Asians upset.
Things we've been doing for centuries, things part of our culture, things that gets us mocked becomes chic and gets rebranded when a very specific group of people wear it and call it "trendy." A lot of times they ignore it when called out, like Oh Polly.

And it happens over and over.
