FitzRoy James Henry Somerset was a British soldier. His first entry to the army was when he was 16, where he lost in an arm fighting the French at Waterloo. In 1854, he became the British commander in chief of British forces in the Crimean War. Great Britain was fighting against the Russians, but Somerset would call them the French. Oh and by the way, Great Britain was allied with the French, and the 2 armies they were coordinating most with were the French and Ottomans. Apparently the British still had good relations with the French though during that war, despite past antagonism and the British commander calling the enemy with their name
