Washer and dryer in the basement.

Mine's in the basement, but it was there when I bought the house.

My parents have theirs in a closet that's off the kitchen and has the water heater for the house. Which is the closest I've ever seen anyone with a washer/dryer in a kitchen? Kinda weird to my American brain.

In some places older homes had them attached to the kitchen because in the ye old days only the kitchen had plumbing. Doesn’t answer why for my place though
