K-drama seems to be more popular across wider age ranges

More people regardless of age(except maybe teens/children/high schoolers/university students[?]) watch k-drama than listen to kpop, eg. my mom watch(-es/ed) kdrama for a period of time until a few yrs ago when she stopped watching TV n then after tat only went on facebook/reads the newspaper.

More people in Asia watch kdramas daily or weekly than listen to or follow kpop. Mostly, i think but am not sure, they casually watch(there might be fans/stans of shows/actors tho) cause its on TV (dubbed into local Asian language or subtitled).

Ppl not in Asia might not know how widespread kdrama became after early 2000s, the shows Autumn in My Heart and Winter Sonata continued or started the trend of mostly women viewers throughout many parts of Asia/🌏 who were devoted to kdramas' unique aspects; ofc not everyone continued all the while but some did and new viewers picked up where others left off.

I think the number of viewers of kdramas[even among men tho not as much as women now or then] hv risen (in Asia/🌏) than any other form of entertainment(I'm exaggerating but maybe not much).

Counting the number of hours watched daily/weekly across the world(on tv/dvds/streaming/mobile phones/pcs/maybe even on playstations/consoles) it probably dwarfs other countries shows(individually) but maybe video games in total are the only thing close or hv more hours played/consumed[streamed/reacted to] than kdramas(considering the opposite demographic tat consumes kdramas/videogames n the little overlap I assume between the 2)

At least tats my impression here in S.E.A.(tho awhile ago I read in a book from 2021 by a Korean american about Korean imported shows in America; probably/either in the 90s/2000s/2010s-so it's not just in Asia only)

To add to that, I think kdramas may have more casual international popularity than kpop. I went out with a guy yesterday, and he was telling me that he only listens to heavy metal, so the only kpop group he's ever heard of is BTS. But he was obsessed with several kdramas he found through Netflix, and was describing them to me in great detail. I can imagine things like Squid Game and Parasite's Oscar win have opened the genre up to an audience that may have otherwise ignored it.

Kpop seems to have more dedicated fans, so it's a louder fanbase, but not necessarily a larger one.

Even though I’m not a k-drama fan, but k-drama is definitely more popular! I know people who aren’t into kpop that do watch kdramas so

k-pop popularity made lots of people interested to kdrama. majority of kdrama lover are old k-poppers from 2nd gen or 3rd gen that lost interest in k-pop nowadays
