I'm not sure if WayV is included but I'll include it myself. Which unit makes the best music? (NCT Dream, 127, WayV, or U) If you have reasons, please share! I kind of like them all equally lol but nothing can beat the 90's Love era of NCT U.

WayV I think? Or NCT 127. U is decent too ofc and Dream have some true gems

Followed by NCT U, WayV and NCT Dream.

I think my ranking (of the 3 core units) is: 127, dream, then wayv. What’s nice about nct is each unit offers a variety of types of music within each other.

Dream has better bsides while WayV has the better full discography imo. Both are good

127 and U both have a lot of polarizing songs for me in comparison

Ooo, it's a tie for me between WayV and NCT 127.
WayV has a more consistent discography IMO, but NCT 127 is the unit with the strongest vocalists IMO and the widest range of styles and genres. I was thinking about this in terms of EXO and NCT 127 not too long ago. I used to think EXO had the strongest disco in kpop and it's still phenomenal but it is limited in some ways in scope and styles. NCT 127 also has one of the best discos in kpop - they don't always land them (I think EXO is more consistent), but the way they always swing for the fences make it exciting and interesting to me and it's become my favorite disco in kpop. I can choose completely different styles to suit completely different moods and most are exceptional.

To add on, my full order would probably be 127, WayV, U and Dream.

I like WayV's disco a lot but I don't feel the vocal line is as strong as 127 (same with Dream, although all the units are very strong and far beyond most.) There's a richness and depth in 127's vocal blend, partly because of the fullness and power of Taeil and the dark richness of Jaehyun's voice grounding the mix with Doyoung'e emotional soaring voice. Jungwoo and Yuta, as well as the rappers add some textures but this is really about the blend of the 3 mains + Haechan, IMO. (Xiaojun, Renjun, Chenle and Haechan are missing that depth and fullness in their respective groups IMO. Tbf, this is what helps separate and distinguish them - Dream's sound is more bright and youthful and optimistic because the vocal mix is higher and a little softer ). 127 also has the strongest rap line to me. YangYang is great in WayV and Mark in Dream, but the MarkYong combo is too powerful.

U has some of my favorite songs and least favorite songs too - some of the all-unit album songs are clearly filler tracks to utilize all the members and the combinations don't always make the most sense, but then you get a song like Round&Round or Light Bulb and it's all bliss. There's still more I like than I don't.

A lot of Dream's disco is very sugary sweet candy coated pop, which isn't my thing although I know many prefer that, and in fact, I didn't start following them until Hot Sauce, when they started shifting their sound. They have some great songs but they're very inconsistent for my personal tastes - like I'm not interested in half of their disco and the only thing I like on the Candy EP is Tangerine Love (and I really hate Candy tbh and it made me think "oh are we going back to that stuff since it was successful? 🥴 So i kinda don't trust them LOL 😂 ). For me, the Hot Sauce/Hello Future albums were the perfect blend of their youthful bright vocal tones and style without being too cutesy. Glimo/Beatbox were a bit uneven compared to those to me but still moving forward with that style and sound with some great gems (Arcade, Better than Gold, Saturday Drip, Teddy Bear) and some other stuff (It's Yours 🥴)
