Which traffic light order makes more sense to you? (1 Viewer)

Like in the US and Canada (I’m sure other countries as well) where it’s green, yellow, red, then green again, or in Israel and Germany (probably most of Europe Id guess along with other places) where it’s green, yellow, red, yellow, green? For me I really see no purpose in having a yellow before the green. At least from what my mom says (she drove in Israel, I haven’t driven in either) yellow before a green just means green to the drivers. So it seems pointless to me. What about you guys?

In Germany, the traffic light is not just yellow before green, but red-yellow like this

and it helps drivers who drive manual transmission and have it in neutral.

All of Germany? I don’t remember for certain but it seemed to me like the yellow lasted longer than the red at least. But I didn’t make specific note of that so it’s possible I’m wrong.
Maybe it helps manual drivers but if most people treat it as a green light it’s the same situation no? I don’t know how it is in Germany because I didn’t pay attention to that but in Israel my mom said they do, at least in some cities. So manual drivers will be later than automatic anyways because automatics start driving on yellow.

I guess if people follow the rules it could make sense for certain countries. From my moms description it didn’t sound like people were following the files in Israel though and in that case I still think it’s useless.

I have traveled inside europe a lot and in many european countries people dont follow it at all. Its almost scary for me because in finland you rarely even hear people honk and in other european countries its all honking and people driving like they have to drive as fast as possible

Yeah that sounds like what my mom said about Israel. She said if you don’t drive the second it turns red/yellow everyone’s honking like crazy. I never really paid attention when traveling inside Europe because I didn’t drive myself, so I can’t really judge that part. It sounds like it would be a nightmare though

Idk Germans seem well behaved if cupids right about them not breaking the red/yellow light system. But I still wouldn’t want to drive through the cury I’m in because cities scare me too much. and I’d prefer not to drive in other places either because I’m not used to them. Canadas the most adventurous I’d go

i see the point of yellow before green bc (US viewpoint of the green yellow red green:) you're suppose to wait a few seconds before driving off when the light turns green anyway, seems like a good way to monitor the traffic/less accidents if people abide by that light.
but if they ignore yeah its pointless but drivers ignore a lot of traffic laws 💀

u see it from the wrong perspective and have to separate the 2 phases.

1st phase: red, yellow, green - it changes from red to green and signals you to prepare to go - the red+yellow shine together
2nd phase: green, yellow, red - it changes from green to red and signals you to slow down

the yellow here is used to signal you to what color it changes rn (because there can be cases in which you dont see if it was green or red), if the yellow+red shines, its going to be green - which tells you to not stop and contiune driving. its pretty simple.

Honestly I don’t see the difference. If you’re so far away that you can know to drive through on yellow/red you’re far enough away that you don’t need to slow down much if at all. Yellow/red if anything would imply that you should slow down more than it being green no?
