sucks that this still is a problem, sigh. i hope newjeans get the right to their name - it's the least they (and all other groups in similar positions) deserve.

If the company applied for the trademark before the name became popular then there's nothing that can be done as the company definitely owns the name in that scenario.

If the company tries to trademark it after the group is popular then they have more of an identity separating them from the company which makes it more of an issue.

Ideally companies who own the trademarks but aren't going to renew the groups should at the very least make a deal for the group to continue using the name for 5% of the profits or something since at the point of the group dying then the company will barely make any money off the trademark.

GET A BLOODY LAWYER - and if you cannot afford a lawyer you cannot afford to spend the next seven (plus training) years of your life under a (potential slave) kpop contract

So your saying being an Idol is only for the rich? Thankfully IU didn't listen to people like you.

no but unfortunately that's just life my friend - one must look after yourself since nobody else is going to
(at least for the first contract where the idol has no bargaining power - even if one cannot change the contract at least one is aware of what's in it)
for every IU there are hundreds not thousands of idols who disband before the first comeback (some disband right after their debut)
no one needs to protect the IUs of the world

Tbf the agency recruited, trained, paid for all that plastic surgery and turned these groups into the successful acts that they are. I dont wanna disagree on them holding the trademark just because they are more powerful than the idol.
