Because it's generally one of the most universal emotions that others feel and relate to.
You can be happy and angry about so many different things, but love? Everyone knows love - knows the triumphs and heart breaks of it (in one form or another).

Love is pretty universally the same, regardless of who you love.
It's relatable, it's comfortable, it's something that can be expressed in many ways but still understood and felt by those listening to said expression of it.

It’s honestly become the norm. It’s also hard to make love sound controversial you know? Like, if you add in commentary on anything really, people will take offense to it but love? Most don’t bother unless it’s Twilight.

Aromantics exist so "everyone can relate" is bs, they must feel so awkward listening music lolol

I think it's because it's such a strong emotion, it can make or break you, literally...
Being in love... It's magical, the best feeling in the world! Hearing songs that describe how you feel can make you even happier, on top of the goddamn world! If you aren't dating your crush (yet) it could give you hope, you get lost in beautiful thoughts and fantasies about them, hearing those words.

Then again, when you get rejected by a crush or dumped/cheated on by your partner... Your whole world falls apart, can lead to depression... Hearing relatable songs can comfort you, yes, those famous singers felt that pain too.
Personally, I prefer more uplifting "move on" songs. Not "I'm gonna cry, I miss her sooo much" songs, but "Screw that bitch, I deserve better" songs

love is one of the most universal and complicated emotions out there. So everyone has their own views. I listen to a lot of really depressing/heart break music, but honestly haven't really ever been that depressed or broken hearted.
