Why can't asians pronounce R? (1 Viewer)

We already know Korea doesn't know what to do with the letter R but Japan also is stumped on this one too.

I'm playing King of Fighters (old Japanese fighting game) and each match starts with the announcer saying "Leady? Fight!"

What's actually happening light now?

The sound just doesn't exist in their language. The same way lots of languages have sounds which English speakers can't say properly because it doesn't exist in the english language.

The ‘r’ sound is often the L and the R sound mushed together

Yep just not part of their language. It exists everywhere, hearing people that grew up in the US trying to pronounce some Russian letters is a big oof

like others stated the harsh r sound of some languages can‘t be found in others. korean‘s for example have one letter for l/r and it‘s much softer than what we are used to.

basically it‘s in the language family

The harsh 'r' sound doesn't exist or is much softer. Just like in English, there is a sound in Russian that doesn't exist for them. It's a really guttural (is that the right word?) sound that is hard to pronounce.
