Why do people shrug off Gunta being "samoan"? (1 Viewer)

So in the lilo and stitch series, Gunta gets looks from tourists or even hawaiian people and he's says "oh, I'm samoan, just visiting" and they're like "oh, that makes sense" or they just shrug it off

I've found it pretty funny but i still don't completely get the joke

I don’t know the context but could it be related to similarities and differences between how indigenous Hawaiians look compared to Samoans? Kind of a situation where they have shared qualities, but they have some difference that makes them seem not native Hawaiian

It's because one of the people asks him about why he's so big and Samoan people are stereotyped as being large in stature.
Basically, they're like, "That makes sense" because Samoans are generally seen as large
