Not sure but I had to stop watching The Walking Dead because I don't handle loosing characters well. I think sometimes it's because of contractual stuff but I think they do it just to get emotional responses out of people.

But like can’t they have the character move away or get a job offer somewhere else… not something dramatic like dying

Well in Doctor Who the actor changes but the character is technically the same. Whole new personality and whatnot though.

Sometimes death can be very powerful in moving the story forward. Unfortunately it seems like shows and books just liking killing people these days.

Yeah, but that's the plot point of the story no? They made it so they can hire new actors but it also serves as a help to hire new actors and continue the franchise

If an actor leaves the show most usually the fans are too attached to the image of the actor to be satisfied with someone else playing it. Ex. The witcher.

For example you can't really rehire a new person in a show like lost? For a character ... Cause they are stranded on an island, wouldn't it be weird to suddenly see another actor for that same role?

i remember in South Park they killed of Kenny for a whole season (season 6 if u were curious) but the creators missed him and brought him back

so i guess there's alot of variables to the equation

IDK but I wish they had killed off the mom in The Glory of the MC, but also it was a nice final act of love toward her abusive mother having her locked away
