Why is it that some post survial show groups hit it big but some barely float? Gugudan, Ily:1, Mirae etc. vs IVE, LE SSERAFIM, Tempest

IZONE was bigger overall because of longer promotion periods, Sakura and a focus on the group.

And honestly, The post-IOI groups banked more on the IOI girls and less on being functional, likeable groups

Yeah definitely, post-IOI people only cared about the groups for the former members more or less. But that seems to be the case with many post-survival show groups

For Ive I think it's mostly because of the prior IZONE members. I also think the company plays a big part with some groups. As for Tempest I think it's because some members participated in survival shows that are more popular? idk tho I don't really much about survival shows so I should probably shut up
And Hanbin from Tempest got a lot of support from his dance crew and his fans from there. I think that also helped a little bit

With izone you could really see how much more they invested in the music than they did for ioi. Compare La Vie En Rose with, urrgh, Dream Girls (is that what their debut was called?) and it’s night and day. I think you can see that trend in the later groups too, and only those with a lot of investment into developing a captivating image and sound survive. Name value is not enough to carry you.

Sometimes the music just stops being good. AB6IX's music is going downhill despite them having 2 Wanna One members, king visual Donghyun, and Woong who trained at YG, JYP, and Woollim. I feel like the concepts are also to blame because boy groups lately have been so boring. I need something more fresh.

It's true that Iz*One had a way bigger fandom and better album sales but i wouldn't say they were bigger than IOI, if you were around 2016 u know none of Iz*One songs are as big as Very Very Very and Downpour. They didn't really have a huge hit. IVE's songs are bigger than any Iz*One song ever was.
I'd say the agencies are promoting these kids better than they did with IOI members, and the 3rd generation was already saturated with top groups from the same generation back in time: Twice, Black pink, Gfriend, Mamamoo , RV were all very big when these ggs debuted. As for 4th generation, barely anyone was yet established as a certified top group. Foreign members help so much with foreign fans as well.

i mean le sserafim is a HYBE group so obviously they were going to succeed one way or another which is something that can't be said for ily:1 for example which is from a very small company. also i suppose it depends on how much following the survival show members have and then the promotion, a group with members that made it to the final group in the show is obviously going to bring more attention than with someone who was in for two episodes. but also you can't treat the group like survival show member and friends which is where some companies fail too like jellyfish with gugudan
