Coming back to this thread to ask a question: Seeing as AAVE is African American Vernacular English, does that mean that non-American black individuals can still use it too?

I believe so! But their may be different words they use! Think of it like a dialect! There's different kinds!

And then you also have the region-specific terms -- I don't use "jit" since I'm not from the south

I used "champ" as a kid
I'm from the south, and I have NEVER heard that term before!

I'm a white girl, and I still use some of these! lol back when I was a Directioner, we had a fandom-wide slang term "lln" which meant "laughing like Niall", because he has such a unique laugh, so we used that instead of lol. There was also this one girl, she was a Zayn-biased Directioner, and she would use "vlz" which meant "vain like Zayn". lol

I think the problem is that, no one looks at a non-black person sideways when they use it. But when a black person uses their own lingo, all of a sudden it's ghetto.

I can't really give a yes or no right now -- I feel like that question has been an argument for a while now ("yes", "no", "yes but not with a blaccent" "hell no", etc.). But you should do some research.

Just to add on to what you said, in UK we have our own words somewhat independent of AAVE, it mostly used in urban British Street slang (although there's also a lot of other cultures, that influence this particular slang and also varies in different areas, e.g like South London, is slightly different from North, east or west London, slang is key identifier to what side you come from) most of the words come from Caribbean and African words ingrained with English. Most of our black cultures are quite upheld culturally so words are easily ingrained within our speech. But as media has progressed there's more cross over between ours and AAVE, ours are weirdly distinct (probably due to our accents as well) so I don't think they catch on like AAVE does.
