Who you have listened to from your childhood, loved their music but that artist have done some horrible, disgusting things?
I'm in this particular dilemma that although this artist has done bad things, I'm still finding it so hard to let go of his talent and music. I listened to him a lot when I was a kid but now he's been done for sleeping with underage girls, etc.

His name is R.Kelly and sang great songs like 'I believe I can fly', 'The world's greatest', 'Gotham City', 'The storm is over', 'If I could turn back the hands of time', 'Ignition', 'I'm your angel' (duet with Celine Dion), 'She's got that vibe', etc.

These are all songs that I truly loved when I was younger, so I am truly conflicted. I really don't like the guy because of what he's done, but his music is something that I really love.

What are your thoughts?

I say keep on listening to his music if you want to, not just bcs "seperate art from the artist" but even if it is "supporting" him.... it's not like that is going to change his situation in any significant way.

You listening to his music bcs you like it, doesn't mean you think what he did was right

No, I haven't seen any documentaries about him, however, I do know he has done some despicable things which is why it makes it hard for me.
Since he has so much talent and his music was a part of my childhood, I'm trying to separate the artist from the man but like you said, it's not 2 people.

It's like the Michael Jackson situation, although he was found not guilty, people were still calling him a child molester and still think he did it, but the question is whether to separate the artist from the human.

Well I do think the separating art from the artist thing holds some merit.

But it's a personal choice, so there's no right or wrong answer. If you can still enjoy his music because you like it and have great memories with it, then don't let the actions of the artist take it away from you.
BUT if listening to his songs now make you feel uncomfortable and you can't escape the thoughts of what deeds he's done, then it's probably best to take a break from it.

Since you also like wrestling, it's like watching Chris Benoit matches for me pretty much. I still watch them sometimes and acknowledge his technical skill although I'll never glorify him or forget what horrible actions he committed.

If we stopped listening to music, watching films and overall consuming any content featuring celebs who were most likely pedos we would have to stop following most of hollywood and a good chunk of the top singers/musicians

it depends on how horrible these things are. the only r. kelly song i know is i believe i can fly and i don't even like that one, but if someone really wants to listen to his music then i guess you can do it without using official streaming services like i did with seungri's 1 2 3 when i still wanted to listen to that, now i don't so that you don't support him in any way.

Well, it doesn't make me uncomfortable because I don't think about R. Kelly himself and what he's done but I just like to listen to his music.
Also, that Chris Benoit tragedy destroyed me inside. Imagine idolizing a wrestler and was at some points your favourite wrestler because of how good he was to then killing his whole family and then killing himself, it would bring everything you know about this guy down.

True, it's like Harvey Weinstein, I bet many people still watch his movies.

Yeah, I think that's the main thing here, if watching or listening to these artists, film directors, singers content is supporting them and helping them, then I don't think it's ok to me to enjoy what they put out, so I think that if you can enjoy it while not supporting the artist, film director, etc, then it's fine to me.

I separate the artist from the controversy surrounding them.
What they did was wrong sure, but at the end of the day.
I am not one to judge someone for their past or current actions.
Just to enjoy the music they make.

Like Jon Nödtveidt was a Swedish musician and convicted murderer who served 20 years in prison, before sadly taking his own life in a controversial suicide attempt.
But he still made awesome music with dissection and reinkaos will always go down as a great final album of melodic death metal enfused with black metal elements. (I never had the chance to listen to his other band before that)

So in that sense I try not to think about musicians and bands fall outs.
Just their energy and passion for music they once possessed.
