Truth be told, it's evolutionary. In psych class we got it put through our heads that often people take information that conflicts with their worldview as a physical threat and for most of us it's pretty mild as that evolutionary trait is no longer favorable and is declining but with strong beliefs like being obsessed with an idol or (*sigh*) politics, it can still be a pretty strong reaction.

Even though we has humans like to think we're on the forefront of evolutionarily derived intelligence, We're still very much prototypes that are still under ongoing development; We're still the first species to demonstrate intelligence on our level and things like the trait of taking conflicting information as a physical threat - to my mind - is evidence of that.

If they say "Yeah its not my cup of tea, ill pass" sure
But i find it weird when they go out of their way to say things like "Who tf listens to this even?" Ya know what i mean.
