@MrDetective @Bara_Gisladottir I decided since I'm revising the story, I figured I'd make a new thread with the revised one and longer chapters. those short ones aren't even my writing style anymore, so I'm trying to make them longer like how I write now. it'll still be in first person POV, jbc it will take forever to switch POVs I think, but yeah longer chapters. Anyway, here we go!

Chapter 1

Lizzie’s POV

I ran around the house like a cyclone as I got ready for school. I’d slaved over a pencil and paper all weekend working on my math homework, and now I couldn’t find it!

“What are you looking for Lizzie?” Daddy asked. “You need to leave in fifteen minutes!”

I rolled my eyes. “I know, Daddy! I can’t find my math homework! Lillian didn’t get ahold of it, did she?”

Lillian is my ten-month-old daughter, who I’d conceived on my very first date. My dad has banned me from dating until I’m twenty because of this.

Mom suddenly appeared with my math homework and slammed it into my hands. “Found it. By the way, there’s a new neighbor with a son who is starting at your school today, and he was wondering if you’d pick him up on your way to school.”

I was very intrigued by this. “Oh, really? Sure, I’ll pick him up. Where does he live?”

“Three doors to the left as you leave the house,” Daddy said. “But you’re not dating again until you’re twenty, remember?”

I sighed. “Yes, I remember.”

As I left the house, Mom followed with Lillian in her car seat; she strapped her in while I got myself situated.

“Have a good day, honey,” she said when she got to my window. We shared a goodbye kiss before I drove away.

When I arrived at the new neighbor’s house and rang the doorbell, an Asian man answered it.

“Hello,” he greeted me. “Are you one of the new neighbors?”

“I sure am! I live three doors that way,” I said. I gestured with my thumb to indicate direction. “I’m Lizzie Saylor. Welcome to America! Is your son ready to go? Sorry, I didn’t catch his name.”

“Oh, you mean Seok-Jin! I’m his father, Kim Nam-Jung. Shall I get him for you?”

“Absolutely.”

A split second later, I heard a conversation in Korean between Nam-Jung and his son, and then the son came into view. He was tall and very handsome, with a black bowl cut and almond-shaped brown eyes.

“Lizzie, this is my son, Seok-Jin,” Nam-Jung introduced. “Seok-Jin…” He continued in Korean, presumably introducing him to me; he told him my name, and then Seok-Jin smiled. And boy, was it a nice smile! In fact, even his eyes were smiling.

“Hi, it’s good to meet you,” Seok-Jin said with a bow. “You are very pretty.”

“Thank you,” I said with a smile. “My car is over there.”

Seok-Jin hoisted his backpack on his back and followed me to my car. When we were both settled, I asked if we could make a quick stop at my sister’s house to drop Lillian off.

“Oh, is that what her name is?” Seok-Jin asked. “She’s a cutie!”

“Yeah, she’s turning one in a couple of months. Vanessa is really nice, and her in-laws are also Korean.”

Seok-Jin’s eyes widened. “Oh, are they from around Seoul?”

“Yeah, from Suwon. Why?”

“That’s close to where I’m from – Anyang!”

I laughed. “What a coincidence! So, what brings you to the great state of North Carolina?”

“My dad moved me here after he…unmarried my mom,” Seok-Jin said.

“Oh, I’m sorry to hear that! We call it a divorce, by the way.”

Seok-Jin shrugged. “It’s alright. It was the moving part I didn’t like.” Suddenly, he got distracted and started staring at me. “You have a beautiful accent, and lovely eyes.”

“Thank you, I’m flattered!” I said. “I like your accent, too, and your smile.”

When we got to Vanessa’s place, I carried Lillian to the door and knocked. Vanessa was the one to answer.

“Well, good morning, sunshine!” she greeted Lillian, lifting her out of my arms and into hers. Then, she noticed Seok-Jin. “Oh, who’s this?”

“This is Seok-Jin Kim,” I said. Seok-Jin, Vanessa.”

“Ooh, what a catch! Is he going to school with you?”

“Thank you, and he is. His dad talked to Mom about me taking Seok-Jin to school while he looks for a new car, and I obliged!”

“Well, it’s a pleasure to meet you, Seok-Jin. I’ll let you two get to school now, okay?”

“Yeah, thanks,” Seok-Jin said.

“Is that our school?” Seok-Jin asked timidly as I approached Hickory High School. “It’s kind of big.”

“Yep!” I said after I parked. “Let me see your schedule.”

Seok-Jin reached into his backpack, pulled out a folded piece of paper, and showed it to me. I looked at it and noticed we were to share second period science, fourth period math, fifth period health, and seventh period art. I pointed it out to Seok-Jin.

“Cool! I think I like talking to you; you’re very friendly.”

I gave him an appreciative smile. “Let’s go to the principal’s office to get your locker arrangements!” I suggested.

“Okay.”

“Uh-oh…what’s with the grin?” my friend, Katie Caldwell, teased as I walked into class. This was after I showed Seok-Jin where his first class was.

“Oh, she must’ve met a guy!” our other friend, Lauren Hancock, added. “Did you, Lizzie?”

“No!” I lied. “I mean, I did meet someone, but it’s not like I have a crush on him!”

“Ooh, what’s his name?!” Katie asked.

I giggled. “Seok-Jin Kim…”

“Aha! You giggle whenever you say his name! You DO have a crush! He sounds Korean, too.”

“Okay, okay! I do have a crush on him. We met when I was picking him up, and on the way here, he complimented me on my eyes and accent. Then, just before we walked in, he said he likes talking to me.”

“Do you think that means he has a crush on you, too?” Lauren asked.

I laughed. “We’ll see.”

At lunch, Seok-Jin and I met with Katie, Lauren, and Lauren’s boyfriend Aaron as we sat down together with our food.

“What’s your name, dude?” Aaron asked Seok-Jin.

“This is Seok-Jin Kim; he just moved in from South Korea,” I introduced.

“Oh, yeah! You were in my English class. Remember when you asked the guy behind you for an eraser? That was me—Aaron.”

“You know, Lizzie is single, if you’re interested,” Katie pointed out.

“Katie!” I scolded. “I’m NOT going out with him; my dad won’t let me date until I’m twenty, remember?!”

Seok-Jin’s face could’ve lit up a whole room with his grin. Katie gasped at this.

“Ooh, somebody’s got a crush!” she teased.

“What do you mean?” Seok-Jin asked.

“A crush is when someone is attracted to someone else. Some of the signs are blushing, clumsiness, and the jitters. You, my friend, seem to have all three!”

“It’s my first day; of course I’m nervous!”

“Let’s do the name test,” Lauren said. “If you blush when we say a girl’s name, you have a crush on her. Lizzie.”

Seok-Jin blushed.

“Do you?” I asked, looking hopefully at Seok-Jin.

Seok-Jin suppressed a laugh and nodded his head yes. “Can I have your number? Then, you can have mine.”

“Sure!”

I gave Seok-Jin my phone number, and he typed it into his phone.
