There are a few ways your blood type can change (both permanently and temporary). The most common reason for a permanent change is if you get a bone marrow transplant from a person who has a different blood type.

That’s even a step further, not only is the blood type different but the dna of the whole blood is inherited too. Though I think it’s common knowledge for forensic scientists, especially if other dna samples from other body parts are also found

Anyway I never knew your blood type could change! In looking that up I also discovered there's multiple types of A blood and if an A2 gets A1 they have complications I would like to assume that stuff gets put in your files even if you yourself don't know which you are

Blood types can get really complicated, people typically only know about A, B, AB, O, and the + or - versions, but there are way more variants you can have if you include the whole Rh system. The Rh system has more than 50 antigens, all of which can cause complications if they don’t match. The universal donor is considered to be O-, but the most universal is if you have Rh null blood (no Rh antibodies), because that blood can be compatible with literally anyone. But in all of known history, only 43 people have ever been recorded with that blood type, and if one of those people need a blood transfusion, they have to use Rh null blood. So they’re doomed unless one of the few people on the planet with that blood type somehow donate blood to this person on short notice. I certainly would never want to live in fear of getting an accident or something requiring a transfusion, knowing that getting a compatible transfusion isn’t likely

Yeah. It’s similar to the universal donor being O-, where O- can theoretically give their blood to anyone but can only receive O- themselves. But the pool of people who can donate O- is way way bigger than those who can donate Rh null blood because the ABO+/- system looks at just a few main combinations, while the full Rh system looks at all of them. The reason they can’t have the wrong type of blood is basically because if you have an antigen in your blood, then give it to someone who doesn’t produce that antigen, their body will attack the donated blood because it marks it as an invasive substance.

We really have come far in terms of transferring things between people, like people now don’t even recognize how insane it is that we can transfer some organs I wonder if there’s work being done to try to basically lab grow Rh null blood, since it seems like a permanent supply of blood like that would be incredibly useful to literally everyone. I’m sure someone somewhere has put work into that.
