I follow this amazing channel talking about Anime, called Bonsai Pop and they posted a review (the first part at least) of my fave anime Yu Yu Hakusho.
I don't know if it's a fan favourite or not, it's a pretty old anime and a fave of mine. It has the premise of a typical fighting anime, but revolves around more than that. It has themes of growing up, the consequence of our actions, the dubious question of morality, is revenge really the best answer to everything and many more things. I know it's a vague description and probably seen in many other animes these days, but I have such a love and nostalgia for it. I do wonder if others love it too. Some consider it an old favourite, but it never was as popular as say dragonball or Ranma 1/2. I wish the author did a sequel...
