18+ What do you think of fans wanting to keep idols image innocent? (1 Viewer)

By this I’m referring to instances where fans think idols shouldn’t talk about, view, read more mature content. I’ve seen comments of fans saying things such as:
“They wouldn’t watch those kinds of movies or look at porn.”
“There’s no way they swear.”
“They probably don’t drink.”
“They’re saving themselves.”
“They need to stay innocent and pure.”

I understand that companies can profit off a more clean and ‘innocent’ image but I think it can in the end only add to the delusions that some fans have of these idols. Most idols probably swear, most are probably not saving themselves for marriage, etc…

I’ve never really understood when fans are shocked when an idol mentions that they watched an R rated film. I guess I kind of understand being shocked at how fast the younger members grow up, but they don’t stay young and ‘pure’ forever.

As someone who stans boy groups I can tell you right now they ain’t so innocent

They’ve accidentally swore on variety shows, have let it slip they watch porn, they drink, listen to all the sexy jams and make some dirty jokes here and there. I don’t stan innocent boys and I know it
And I like that because it shows that they are in fact human, they’re not these pure dolls like their companies may try to push for.

Okay I rambled like crazy but what do you guys think of this subject?

Ugh, I hate those kinds of fans with a passion. These are grown adults, they curse, they drink, they date, they have sex....I guarantee they're just normal people in their off hours. If you want innocent, stan a fictional character, not a real human being with emotions and needs, please.

Stanning an idol who is comfortable with his body and enjoys showing it off, this has been something I've seen a lot of. Fans used to accuse Starship's stylists of over-sexualizing him. One of his Chinese fansites actually sent what was essentially hate mail when he wore a fully see-through top. There was also the hate for his phone lock screen when he had a character w/large breasts on it. Even now, there are still people screaming endlessly that, "he's just a sweet boy who will never marry" and that "just because he shows off his body doesn't mean you can drool over him", blah blah blah, etc etc. Grown ass man, almost 30, treated like he should be in a monastery, meanwhile the man himself shuns clothing like he's allergic to it and obviously enjoys the attention his thirst photos get. Make it make sense, pls.

Another gripe is all these "scandals" related to bad behaviour when idols were kids. Fans constantly shocked and upset that their faves smoked/drank/dated/whatever when I'm sure a lot of those judging harshly have done similar. Kids are still developing, they push boundaries, do stupid things, and yet fans act like them being normal is the end of the world, to the point of forcing them out of the industry as if they did these things just yesterday, not years and years ago. It's one thing if they harmed others, abused people, committed harmful crimes, but even the slightest infractions can end careers because they no longer live up to the completely insane and unobtainable standards of the "virtuous idol" stans.

Well we've seen multiple times that they're not innocent. What makes them think that idols just... don't engage in mature things? Just because you don't see it doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

Its hypocritical. I can list quite a few k-pop songs that have sexual themed or suggestive lyrics. Also, there is suggestive dancing, which is abundant. Plus there was an idol who posted a suggestive shot for instagram of him laying face down on a bed that displayed his derriere and thigh muscles tensed to likely illicit a reaction from fans. You couldn't get a good look at his head, he was obviously selling sex.

Plus, while not directly relating to sex, there are plenty of songs relating to how the idols are bad b----s and such..

The real issue is down to the fact that fans think they own the idol and dictate what they can and cannot do. Plus chen has a kid. But you know, she was conceived merely by chen thinking it into existence, pregnancy is just so funny that way... No, obviously chen has had sex. Other idols are likely having sex. In relation to boy groups, emerging adulthood is a time where sexual desires are rampant and the idea of saving oneself... is a pretty good way to ensure a short marriage.

It's naive to think that and also pointless like most of the things people want an idol not to do in order to believe they have an innocent image shouldn't change your opinion of someone anyway.

I will say though that going to the extreme other end of the spectrum about it isn't exactly a way to handle it either as there will be some who are more reserved while others are more outgoing and you shouldn't try to put a label on someone that you don't know which one they are either way.
