I disagree if s-x is intrinsic to the plot. Still there are good series that use gratuitous s-xual content. For instance, shows on PPV networks may find ways to insert s-xual content 2-3 times per episode. Things really can be done in lieu of intimate scenes to infer that such occurred. A woman [in a sitcom] walking back to her apartment at 6 in the morning with hair disheveled speaks for itself. The writer does not really need to have a s-x scene to illustrate that she had a one night stand that she regrets when the aforementioned walk of shame illustrates that perfectly. Still the question remains, is it awkward to watch programming with one's parents which s-x is discussed. That would depend on one's openness in relation to their relationship with their parents. Some people are very conservative with their parents, while others feel it is okay to discuss anything under the sun with their parents. Boundaries are important, but so is sunscreen. Not everyone has boundaries with their parents... and not everyone wears sunscreen.
