and a wonderful story by no one else than THE writer @Juniverse

The tiny bakery was warm and inviting as Hua Cheng stepped in, shaking the rain out of his hair. His tall stature was intimidating to say the very least, and he noticed several people shrink back.

He strode purposefully to the counter, one side of his mouth pulling up into a smile as Xie Lian stepped out of the backroom, hanging his apron up on a hook and grabbing his satchel.

He reached out to take Xie Lian's hand, his heart skipping a beat as thin fingers laced between his. He leaned down to kiss his head. "You smell like powdered sugar."

"It was crepe day."

"Did you save me one?"

Xie Lian patted his bag in response. Hua Cheng smiled.

"You came exactly on time." Xie Lian remarked.

"I waited out in the rain until 5:00." Hua Cheng replied, reaching into Xie Lian's bag to pull out his umbrella.

"In the rain? You could have gotten sick."

Hua Cheng shook his head, opening the umbrella and nudging Xie Lian under it. "I haven't gotten sick in years." He murmured. "And you were sick last week."

Xie Lian scoffed but huddled into Hua Cheng's side as they began to make their way down the rainy street.

"Maladaptive daydreaming describes a condition where a person regularly experiences daydreams that are intense and highly distracting."

Hua Cheng opened his eyes, wincing as his head bumped against the window of the cramped taxi. That had seemed so real. He could still smell Xie Lian's powdered sugary self. But his hair wasn't even wet. He sighed and leaned his head against the cold window.

Xie Lian. A baker. A writer and an artist. His significant other. The boy who endlessly haunted his daydreams. He had never felt a love so deep for anyone. Hua Cheng knew that his mind had crafted him a gift of absolute perfection.

"Maladaptive daydreaming mainly consists of extremely vivid daydreams with their own characters, settings, plots, and other detailed, story-like features."

The first time it had happened, Hua Cheng had been shocked. The second time, he'd been scared. By the third time, he'd already fallen in love with Xie Lian and was starving for more.

He'd researched online about parallel universes, about glitches in the so-called Matrix that was his shitty life. When he'd clicked the article on maladaptive daydreaming, everything had lined up. He hadn't even bothered to look for help or find a way to stop it. Why would he? Xie Lian and the pretty world they lived in was all he needed.

Sometimes, the daydreams would last for hours. Those were his favorites. He could actually pretend it was his real life. Sometimes, they'd last for minutes. He was thankful for each second.

It didn't pose a threat at work, because he had no customers or coworkers in the tiny diner in which he worked. He was happy.

Then he started to show up. Hua Cheng didn't know his name, and he didn't care to learn. The boy had started coming into the diner every afternoon. He'd order something, and try to initiate conversation with Hua Cheng. The latter was having none of it. Sure, he was cute, but he had Xie Lian. And by humoring this boy, he was wasting precious time.

"It is a real disorder that can have painful effects on a person’s daily life."

Hua Cheng paid the driver and stepped out of the taxi, trudging through the door of the derelict diner. It looked and smelled stale and depressing.

He didn't know why he was still paid to upkeep it. The owner was elderly and stupidly sentimental. The diner had been a prime spot back in...who knew. Before Hua Cheng's time, definitely.

He sat behind the counter, tapping his fingers against the empty register. Perhaps he could sneak away early and force a daydream to come to him.

That wasn't how it was supposed to work, but Hua Cheng could care less. He'd spent hours figuring out how to abuse it and force himself into a daydream.

With practice, he could do it pretty easily. They held less substance then the ones that came naturally, but it was still something.

Just when he was getting ready to go to the tiny staff room, the diner's door swung open. Him, again.

He took a seat at the diner's counter and gave Hua Cheng a bright smile. Hua Cheng just stared. Surprisingly, the boy didn't falter. "I have a new question. Do you serve alcohol here?"

"We don't serve anything here. No customers." Hua Cheng replied, reaching down into the minifridge under the counter and pulling out a cheap beer. He slammed it on the counter, angry that his chance to see Xie Lian was taken from him. "I.D."

The boy slid his identification across the counter. Hua Cheng glanced at it. An American name that slipped out of his mind the second he read it.

Hua Cheng ignored the customer's attempts at small talk for a painful twenty minutes, before the boy took the hint and left. Finally. Hua Cheng locked the door and made his way to the staff room. He sat on the dilapidated couch, closing his eyes and waiting.

"Experts still aren’t sure what causes maladaptive daydreaming."

He opened his eyes to Xie Lian brushing flour off of his hands. "...like I was saying, bread is so hard to get right. It took me ages. So don't be discouraged if yours comes out inedible, San Lang." Xie Lian poked Hua Cheng's cheek, leaving behind a dot of flour.

Hua Cheng smiled, shaking his hair out of his eyes as he began to knead the bread in front of him. "I'm a terrible cook. Everything I make is inedible."

Xie Lian sighed good-naturedly. "Practice makes perfect..."

Hua Cheng grabbed the smaller by his waist and pulled him close. "You're perfect."

"Corny." Xie Lian replied softly, a smile on his lips. Hua Cheng kissed it away.

"I wish we could stay like this forever."

"There is no cure."

and a feiyu/yunxi and mimi story for you ♥

“Mimi, I am desperate. I think I am about to die” Feiyu or Arthur as he prefered to be called once he was back to the US was almost desperately crying into his phone sitting in a posh café. His young friend was sighing on the other side. “What now” she pretended to be annoyed and busy but in reality she was ready to listen and curious (in the most guilty gossipy way) to hear about his new adventures.
Chen Feiyu, Luo Yunxi and several other Chinese actors emigrated from China after the downfall of the danmie dramas and strict rules on “what a real man should look like”. Feiyu wasn´t the only one who decided to try their luck somewhere where he could be artistically free though it meant he would have to give up acting for at least a while. The truth was that Feiyu knew it was more about something else. He was well aware of his own sexuality and thinking about his own happiness, he knew that sooner or later he wanted to make his life a good one, a worthy one, without hiding, without any shame. Frankly, he wasn't raised to be a shy boy, he was a rebel, something who didn't like the dictations of society or anyone else, but he had to fall down a bit. Despite coming from a rich family, he had to bow his head and start working as an assistant director. Surely a noble job for anyone else, but not so for Feiyu. He believed he was a reincarnation of God himself - young, free and ready to take the world. This slight arrogance made him ambitious, fearless and insanely attractive - he was like a Chinese James Dean. Someone who you would never expect to cry into a young artist´s phone.
“I´m desperate. He is the only person who makes me doubt my own abilities.” Fair enough, Feiyu was a player. Men, women, kids, pets, he liked to charm people, animals and even leaves flying down the trees would gladly go his way. It was a sport for him, but not in a malicious way, he wasn't breaking tons of hearts and leaving dirty sheets everywhere he went, though he was not a virgin, he could be easily described as “modest” when it came to the number of relationships. He liked people and enjoyed making them feel good. Making an elderly lady blush under her wrinkles and remember her youth would make him happy. Arrogant rebel my ass, he was a sweetheart through and through.
But now he fell hard and serious - the apple of his eye - no one else than his “old” colleague and friend (he hoped he could call him like that? Because could he? Could he dare? In his eyes Yunxi was the king and he was the mere peasant) Luo Yunxi.
Yunxi was one of the immigrants who were now creating a new LA Chinese intelligentsia. He came to teach dance - ballet specifically and it didn't take that much effort to already establish himself as an eternal elf with incredible talent. He was a gentle and patient teacher. His English was a bit rusty but that only added to his charms. He could be making up words and his native born students would gladly nod and praise him.
Both Feiyu and Yunxi could just give Mimi a headache and while she was shamelessly in love with both of them in the beginning (who wasn´t? Who wouldn´t?) She soon found enough they were just in love with each other and someone had to take their heads and bump them into each other and scream YOU IDIOTS, HOW CAN YOU BE SO BLIND?
Mimi spent DAY AND MONTHS telling Feiyu how perfect Yunxi is and how amazing he is, leading to him teasing her she should marry him and her rolling her eyes (I mean, man, she WISHED?) and he was finally calling and crying his heart out, she almost clapped her hands if only she didn't have to type her thesis, listen to him and draw Jimin´s portrait that she had to finish NO MATTER WHAT.
“It is his birthday soon, so don't you want just … like buy him something?” She offered the first thing that came to her head.
“But what? A wedding ring? A house?” He asked. Mimi thought that some people would think he was joking, but knowing him he wasn't.
“Maybe start with something normal like a bouquet? Or maybe a book? He likes reading, piano and classical stuff like that.”
There was silence for some time. A rare silence from the usually hyped Feiyu.
“Ohh, I know Mimi!!!”
She stopped drawing for a second, she knew she was meant to be scared. She knew his idea would be .. weird at least and he was surely not listening to anything she had said. The boy was gonna go big. Mimi shook her head. “Do as you wish.”
“But you will be coming too!” And he hung up. A normal person would be questioning why anyone would invite anyone other than his beloved to a date or something like a date, but no … she wasn't at all.
It took Feiyu some time to prepare what he had meant to prepare, time went by and in three weeks a text was there. Nothing much exciting was happening apart from BTS having a concert one month from now and Mimi being excited as it was legit Christmas and she was getting a new Tesla. She had already had her own ticket pinned on the cardboard checking it every day as if it could magically fly away. Hanging out on Twitter and obsessively checking every single movement was her thing even now when her life was busier than ever, she could tell her mother for HOURS how she had no time to breathe while at the same time checking which colour was Jimin dyeing his hair now.
“Picking you up at 5pm. We are gonna have FUN” and tons of different emojis added. Mimi expected a night out, perhaps a coffee. Neither of the guys were big on parties and neither was she. She seriously could NOT EVER imagine Yunxi touching a drop of alcohol, maybe a drop of red wine (maybe she did have a slight platonic crush on him still), but going out was never a bad thing. Feiyu was stylish and was eager to spoil people around. Not that she needed to be spoiled but it was simply nice. “OK” was the only reply that she needed. A cute, easy-going outfit, a well-hidden effort that was put in looking just gorgeous.
“Princes” Feiyu called out, making a horrible noise to let everyone know he was here. “Hello” said shy Yunxi. He knew he could speak Chinese in their company, but it was obvious how ashamed he felt for not being good enough to learn English fluently, no matter how everyone kept telling him his accent just added to the cuteness. No, the man wanted and needed perfection.
“Where are we going?” she asked from the backseat still glued on her phone.
“Have you been checking on your boys?” asked Feyiu.
“Yeah they are coming in a couple of weeks, excited as heck.” she said with not a hint of her famous sarcasm.
Feiyu smiled, his teeth grinning. He had a terrible secret to bear and he was really NOT good at secrets.
Some small talk passed and they were soon near a cute little café in Brentwood. “Have you heard about the secret concert?” He asked (Yunxi totally puzzled about who were BTS or boys or whatever universe they were living in).
“Yeah, some rumors. Since when are you into BTS?” Mimi asked, growing quite curious.
“Since you introduced me to the sweetheart Jimin” he winked. THE TEASE!!
She would kick his seat but unfortunately poor Yunxi was sitting in front of her.
The car stopped and Feiyu commanded “Get off the car, loves. We are going!”
Mimi checked Yunxi´s face. She knew Feiyu could fool around easily. He fit into the American liberal attitude quite well. She actually always wondered whether he might have felt repressed in China, but Yunxi kept to himself. Always composed, careful not to harm the grass that he was walking on. She warmed up to Feiyu quite easily, but sometimes she wasn´t sure Yunxi was anyone other than an acquaintance. She was sure it wasn't because he was a cold person, he was just too out of this world.
The trio was walking towards the entrance, a couple of people were standing there, and the entrance was guarded by two policemen. Policemen? In Brentwood? This was a residential area of the rich. What were they about to witness?
Three VIP tickets flew out of Feiyu´s pocket. He was indeed quite content with himself. He was persuaded he picked the right gift. He turned to Yunxi “Happy Birthday” and touched his shoulder lightly, the other one obviously shivering. It had been a while since anyone touched him in his real life. “You deserve some fun. I hope you will like them as much as me but not as much as her, otherwise you´d be blinded by other men.” Feiyu blushed. This was too much and he knew it. He was risking it for the sake of being too constipated with his own feelings. But even if Yunxi thought SOMETHING he didn't show it. He just moved his head to the side slightly, his expression not giving in anything.
The area was actually bigger than it looked from the outside. It seemed to be an old cabaret transformed into a small venue for those indie gigs of local groups. But whether there was enough air or enough chairs or whether there were enough artistic details and hipster cocktails was no concern for Mimi.
The BTS secret concert just for no more than 50 people. She was jumping up and down, no need for coffee or Red Bull. Asking Feiyu whether he was serious only 1 million times before making her way RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE PODIUM. She was SO CLOSE she was sure she would be able to smell them, hoping that any of them would spit on her by accident and she would be able to clone him. Her dream coming true, Mimi was living on an adrenaline rush. It actually made Yunxi smile. “I have never really listened to kpop.” He whispered into Feiyu´s ear, silently enough so that Mimi could not hear him (excuse you? She was only thinking about one person at that moment).
“It is ok, I am sure you will like it. I prefer their older stuff, but everyone finds their fav. Soon, you´ll get a bias.” Yunxi didn´t understand that gibberish but he nodded. “Plus they are really good dancers.” Feiyu added. Yunxi smiled.
There was no need to concentrate on the supporting band, though they were good, people were clearly expecting someone else and they were to get it.
The cheers, the screams, people jumping, crying. Still no one dared to touch or push each other. These were the biggest fans, the respective, intelligent fans who knew how lucky they were. They were simply adoring the boys and eating their every word though not everyone understood everything.
“Saranghae!!!!” they were screaming as the first tones were coming out from the speakers. “Saraghae” said Feiyu before he kissed Yunxi on the lips. Truly and passionately so that he knew there were no mistakes and no regrets.
