The only word i nvr heard of is Minatory, tho i might not hv rmbrd Sybarite if asked for synonym of hedonism, or for tat matter if u gave me the dictionary meanings -being sleepy, self-indulgent/pleasure-seeker, supplies of military force-could i hv come up with those words or their synonyms in a timely manner. Ill try n train my brain on these words.

Something like somnolence is pretty easy to guess the meaning based off the ~vibe~ but like my apush teacher is always harping on about, suffrage doesn’t mean suffering, lmao

Actually, i think somnolence would be rlly hard (in my opinion) to guess without context/experiential {im just stringing 2 words along here tat seemto fit} vocabulary(ie lots of reading or picking up on meanings, or training for ur NorAm Spelling Bees).

Fr'instance when i was younger(between pre-teen n my twenties) i read this word "awry" without checking out the dictionary for its meaning, i knew it denoted wrongness or out of wack-BUT i pronounced it Or-ry (maybe cos iwatched North & South tv miniseries by then,at least first one) so it took me till a few yrs ago for some reason to learn it was awe-ri.

The meaning was correct, but not my (head) pronunciation.

This might be true outside English-speaking countries or non-English as first language communities tho. N i think of English as my 1st language, n mostly dont think of myself as hvg a second language(since i cant read n write my so called mother tongue).

I would nvr hv thot of asking my English (1119/cambridge 'o'{?} lvl) tuition teacher how to pronounce a word; cant rmbr if there was a verbal test component then.

We dint hv lists of words to memorise/pronounce then, everything was more thot-based as in essays/sentences i think. Its too long ago n i dont rmbr exactly.

PS (googling apush-arent u still a kid in high school rn, n ur taking/learning college level stuff already?
