Not quite sure, but I understand the viewpoint of copyright law. On one hand, it would prevent people to profit off of someone else's work, which is a good thing. But on the other hand, it will really limit what we can or cannot share.

It's so screwed up There's a scary mix of antique thinking, information control, the nasty war of corporate vs. gov overreach where we're all pawns, and the reaction to the accurate notion that a free and open internet globalizes and lessens their power, especially with younger citizens.

As an American I think this will probably impact us on a day to day level, but my biggest sadness is how much great EU-spawned content and how many great creators may be stifled by this law depending on how their countries react.

Agreed and smaller companies fighting against the big corps may be effectively prohibited from competing due to the regulations and Google et al will end up more powerful than ever in the end. They claim it'll help keep these Cthulhu tech mega-orgs from being too powerful but it'll probably lead to the exact opposite.
