This could be subjective I guess, people might be happy or enjoy anything and succeed in any existing field but then again, something like medicine or IT is considered a very top field to work in, in Asia and then there are other jobs like mine that don't blow people off when I mention it: I am a translator. Also I consider my own social life average because I have very few close friends or friends in general while I know people who are extremely social, have many friends and lots of parties to attend. And they are good talkers with confidence and don't come off as awkward. I know introverts would prefer staying home or a closed circle but I really wished I was more social and confident.
I don't know why people think there are average jobs?
At the end, every job is important. What would we do without plumbers or cleaning staff?
Their job is not average (or worse), but the people who think that have a pretty limited way of viewing the real word.
If you are more shy, why do you think it's a bad thing?
Even people people who seem confident can be seen as awkward, because there will always be people who think there are too confident or too cocky.
Your social life is definitely not average because you 'only' have a few close friends.
What is even the average number of friends?
At the end of the we are all average in many aspects and that's alright
