It’s time for a dolphin story, one of the things events team wanted to include in this event is videos, facts and stories about a few dolphins throughout the month. After all this event, while the games are great, the main goal is to educate others about these beautiful creatures.



For today’s story, it’s all about a lovely bottlenose dolphin called Winter. At the age of about two months old, Winter was found tangled in the ropes of a crab trap on December 10, 2005 in the coastal waters of Florida. This is a common way that many dolphins and other animals such as sea turtles are accidentally killed. The rope that Winter was entangled in had cut off the blood supply to her tail which resulted in amputation. She was unable to be returned to the wild because of this.

With the loss of her tail Winter learned to swim by flexing her tail side to side which is something very unnatural for a dolphin, a dolphins tail is meant to go up and down and with this side to side motion she was causing damage to her spine.

A team heard of Winter’s story and offered to make a prosthetic tail for her, this process took over a year and a half designing, creating 16 different tails until finding a suitable one for her. The knowledge from creating Winter’s custom tail and gel was later used for human amputees, specifically the gel sleeve which helped reduce pain from prosthetic limbs.

Winter gained a lot of popularity through her story, becoming an inspiration to others, games, books and even movies have been made of her such as the movie “Dolphin Tale” which depicts her story, with Winter portraying herself.

Sadly on November 11, 2021 Winter passed away from a twisted intestine, she was only 16 years old which is still very young as most female bottlenose dolphins in the wild live to be at least 40 years old.

I know it’s so sad. I found out about it while working on the event and was shocked to hear the news, she was so precious.

I don’t think anyone guessed the hourglass for the last image, but despite that you all did really well and I enjoyed watching you all struggle to figure out what was all there.
Before we get to the results I just want to remind everyone that each individual member needs to complete these games themselves and turn it in individually in order to collect shells for your team. You’re more than welcome to help each other, but you will not get points by only one of you sending in the answers for all of your team as that would be unfair especially if not everyone helped. This did happen in this mini game with one team, and only the users who did actively help will have collected points for their team which is unfortunate as it gives their team less points. If you’re unsure of anything to do with the mini games, main games, schedule please refer to the OP and if you still can’t find an answer to a question please let me know and I’ll answer all your questions.

I will be extending this mini game by an hour as I’m announcing it an hour earlier, I is getting ready to sleep and don’t want to have to wake up in an hour just to post this.
Anyways this mini game is “How Many Shells in the Story?” It’s a bit different from our other games so far and in a way is kind of a treasure hunt in a story… I will give you a story (which you will find below), in this story you are trying to find the shells… Now this is very difficult to explain so instead here is an example of the kind of shells you are searching for in the story:

As you can see with “Swiftly headed east, loudly letting” it spells shell if you take the first letter of each word.
The second with “into its built in home.” Is referring to the sea turtles shell.
And then the final one with “couple of sea snail shells” is referring to two sea snail shells.
Does that make sense?
