Do you also feel this way? I definitely have moments where I feel a bit of insecurity looking at beautiful people all day long since I am so invested in the kpop fandom


TLDR: The OP confessed that as a cis woman she has a hard time watching or enjoying more feminine girl groups/concepts because it makes her feel insecure and sad.

To be totally honest i do. I have had times when ive cried because i felt so ugly compared to all of the idols. It hasnt stopped me from stanning anyone but it is harder for me to stan idols who are very good looking in my opinion because i start feeling ugly and like i will never be even close to them. But its probably part of my body dysmorphia because ive had major issues regarding to my appearance since elementary.

I felt like this very early on, which is why I only stanned boygroups when I got into kpop. Luckily, 2NE1 broke the spell for me. I recognize the fact that looking good is part of their job (and a big one too) and they have plethora of people assisting them with enhancing their appearance, so it is unfair to compare idols to regular folks like myself.

a) it's their job to look good b) they tend to have heavy makeup at all times c) heavy editing for official content and d) plastic surgery/fillers/other similar noninvasive procedures are super super common (not to mention that you know some of those procedures will age very badly)

I'm likely reading too much in it but putting the more tomboy image girls and then saying they're fine is ://// to me personally, like ryujin fits those beauty standards a lot better than those cute image gg members, that op's more against femininity in women

honestly i can't say i have ever felt like that, i would never ever want to be anyone but me and i love myself too much to compare myself to celebrities. also at the end of the day for me kpop is just a music genre.

also i don't want to sound like i'm psychoanalysing someone through the internet but if i were the person in that reddit post i'd just distance myself from following kpop for a bit, everyone has insecurities but if you straight up feel terrible just by looking at someone that sounds a bit concerning ngl.

i was hoping i wouldn't be the only one thinking that, like maybe it's just the way it was phrased but it almost sounded like uplifting and cute/elegant are contradictory.

The wording was a little clumsy but considering they mentioned being attracted to those idols so it'd be weird for it to be a bash and seems more like they are just unable to enjoy the more girly girls because they're just focusing on themselves.

yes i would say that they were not meaning it to be offensive towards those girls at all, if anything they find them attractive and they make them feel confident maybe because they also are more tomboyish or perceive themselves as less girly. meanwhile the girls that are more feminine might call into question what a woman should be to them and make them feel like they're not girly enough
