Every kpop group has a member that apparently went on a wrath at their school that would impress Yakuza and Triad bosses.

It makes the stats look like 1 in every 5 students was a demon from hell.

Would you rather attend a Korean School for 4 years or serve 4 years in a Federal prison?

at first, i thought only some kdramas make them look like this. but now, well, my thinking has changed a lot.
I bet kids are heavily influenced by the bullying they see on Dramas and assume its normal and what you are supposed to do.

Boys Over Flowers should probably be banned from Korea for a school worshipping a group of boys who had a student attempting suicide in the first episode.

Well the thing with Korean schools is that the teachers have very little authority so kids can do whatever unless they really go too far then someone will step in

the hierarchy is a big thing everywhere in Korea, not just schools. I think it all comes from that. I also feel like bullying like that occurs everywhere in the world, but it is just not as medialized, dealt with in the same way aka "ruining your career later". In Korea it seems like the whole country basically runs on the survival of the fittest - you have to be the prettiest, the cleverest, the richest which is something the new "hip" youth strive to drive away from. In the West and the Americas, youth tends to find happiness in the nature or themselves while in Korea it is still hard work, good grades and perfectionism. The amount of stress the kids are under create frustrated, emotionally constipated monsters who are happy to meet a person "who is somehow less" than them and enjoy that superiority feeling to the fullest.

still, I don´t think the Korean schools are the worst of the worsts. I have actually read a review of a British-Korean who said unless you attend tons of classes at cram schools and your parents are devils who push you to the fullest, life is good and Korean children don´t get significantly more homework than others (which is based on an experience of one person, fair enough). the real hell of Korean education starts in high school which is severe because it is a very old-school system based on memorisation (something that a lot of countries try to run away from) and I really don´t envy that the high schoolers.

thank you if you have read my thoughts so far :D. all I have wanted to say... I don´t think their schools are that bad or that there is more bullying, I just think it is more medialised and can be used for further damage

what the fuck are u serious-
Yes one of the most legendary kdramas ever starts with a student about to jump off the top of the school building and kill himself because F4 (the most popular and richest boys in school) told their followers to get rid of him.

Luckily our main character steps in at the last second and saves him.

Great points. I always forget about the hierarchy thing which plays a huge role in this.

sounds like most schools now.
Not even close really as the school my nephew goes to the staff will pull them up on absolutely anything that goes against their rules to the point parents complain about them abusing their power if anything

One of my earliest school memories was when I was in first grade (around 1985) and I was going to be spanked. I remember it took song to clear the spanking and set everything up legally that I even remember thinking at the time as a little ass kid "what's the point in even doing this if its going to take an hour".

Funny thing is when they finally spanked me a couple times it was so light I barely felt it. All that anticipation for absolutely nothing lol. What a waste of everyone's time.

I guess not too long after 85 spanking in schools was banned forever.

and that is not awful as so many teachers now are just crazy ppl, bad students who are drunk with power. and some parents just flat do not care as long as school is free babysitting/ childcare as long as the kids are not actually killing each other dont bother em..

lol ours were drilled so they whistled coming in, but it was later grades. 4,5,6 where they would be pretty hard.
I would think in the lower grades it more a shame thing.

although i heard in the catholic school that hand ruler thing hurt like mad.

Pretty socially engineered rules that the staff at the school doesn't approve of even if there's nothing that you'd judge as bad behaviour

mostly that crap has no place in school.

basic kindness.
Teach reading
how to learn.
basic math thru algebra 1 ie single variable solve for x type stuff that we do all the time intuitively. say i have 8 posts and 3 threads but i need 15 how many more posts do i need?
writing in some form
and how to work with other ppl.
exposure to basic science
and allow vocational or advanced study in the above fields and that is k-12.
i would love some pe to get kids moving and outside, but that hill may be too high.
