Why can I not connect with any group but f(x)? (1 Viewer)

Is there such thing as a peak in an individuals kpop fandom?

I'm familiar with over a hundred girl groups from 1st gen to now. And while I do love a dozen other groups, really like a dozen others, and like a handful more, theres just no one who realistically comes close to f(x) for me.

I find it almost impossible that a company put together the 100% perfect group that appealed to me in a way no other group would. For example if Irene debuted in the group instead of Amber I'm positive f(x) would never have been a blimp on my radar. And she's not even my favorite member. And I'm clearly not into f(x) cause I'm attracted to the members. If beautiful girls is all I wanted I would have became obsessed with almost any other group because f(x) was mostly built and aimed at girls.

I also don't believe its because f(x) was the first group I discovered. When I look at every girl group I know and love today and even those I don't I don't really see any of these groups sticking with me. For example if SNSD or 2NE1 or After School was the first kpop group I discovered I think I would have thought "That was cool" and then moved on with my life and never looked back.

I know this is a question that really can't be answered but I just wanted to ponder outloud. It just sometimes upsets with that its 2022 and I'm just as obsessed with f(x) as I was in 2015. Obsessed with a group and era that is long over and will never return.

Its honestly probably because there is an emotional attachment there that I don't have with any other group. But how do I develop this with another group?? Maybe you can't. Maybe you don't pick the group the group picks you.

I think everyone has that "special" group or soloist. we love them because they sparkled something. sure, we enjoyed their music but honestly, when you mentioned that "if you had discovered any other group ... you might have moved on" I can see myself in those words. I had properly got into kpop in 2020, but that wasn´t the year of my kpop discovery. not long ago I went through my old playlist and there were already kpop artists saved and favoured but it more felt like "cool song, saved and moved on" but then I met Bang Yongguk and here I am.

it could also be that we have certain memories connected to those "special" artists like friendships made over that shared love, discussions, excitement, lyrics that spoke to us or we might even see something that reminds us about ourselves.

weirdly enough I think we become so attached to these groups that they become our trademark. Drew_B without fx? no one would believe that

They must be pretty special if you’ve connected to them the way you have. I wouldn’t try and force yourself to replicate that love in another artist, there’s nothing wrong with just having one ultimate group. If it does happen, it’ll happen naturally, or when you least expect it.

Thank you so much for reading my post and replying. You helped confirm that it probably is more about that specific group you discovered than anything else.

Something else I forgot to mention. I've also wondered if I had discovered f(x) in let's say 2010 would I still have become the obsessed fan I am today? But because I discovered them in 2015 at the tail end of their career that meant I had plenty of content to keep me engaged and helped my love continue to increase. But in 2010 they were so new they didn't have much to keep me coming back. Like someone who can't wait a week for a new episode of their favorite tv show. They can only binge watch or they lose interest.

But maybe not. It probably didn't matter if I found them in 2009 or 2019 it was always destiny that they were going to be one of my favorite forms of entertainment of all time.

Again I know this question isn't a big deal but it Intrigues me how each individual finds their faves and for some reason can never move on or find a replacement.

Yes I'm sometimes shocked at what they do to me when I see or hear them. If it was announced a kpop concert was coming to my town with BTS Blackpink Red Velvet and a dozen other groups I probably wouldn't go cause um lazy and don't like crowds. But if f(x) was gonna be there I would 5 grand for a first row seat.

I know I'm no different from anyone else with their faves but like I said just more curious about how we get to our faves.

Aww that’s cute you’d do that. I’m curious as to how I’ve ended up with the stan list I have, as they’re all completely different from each other.

They’ll be lots of reasons why, but my guess would just be that F(x) were the right group at the right time for you. Lucky them to have you as a MeU

i feel you. i feel the same way with twice. i guess we just fall in love with them and create a bond with them so strong, that it is hard to even give 1/4th of that attention to other groups.

To me it seems to be just a mystical connection. Especially for all my officially stanned groups and particularly the top 3.

For example i had zero intention of even following the PD 48 group, since early design of the show really annoyed me. (the rumored 6/6 split with cross nation voting and the idea that 10+ year veterans were going on the show) (i do wonder what would have happened if Amber and Luna had said screw it and went on the show....)

And even at the end of the show i was not fully crazy invested but just watching the gelling process before the debut clicked. i was almost all in, then the music was something i loved and it was game over.

Yea as a group there is just crazy magic about them when complete its nuts.
Same as SNSD OT9 is otherworldly as ot 8 its less cant really help that.

In this way they would represent a sort of "perfect storm". Not only as on paper a group that touches you, and one you fell in love with, but one that also represents you falling in love with the world of kpop when it was fresh and new and this exciting thing you were coming into.


Those connections are hard to recreate no matter if groups hit all the points on paper. FX was the group through which you discovered this world.

I know for me I have two such groups that do that for me.

SNSD was the group through which I was shown this whole new exciting world.

And then second TWICE, who connected with me at a time I was first exploring fandom culture and kpop forums to a larger extent.

Both not only had all the elements to make me fall in love. But came at that perfect time where I was falling in love with aspects of broader kpop.

Through them I found a place I belonged

I'm just so fascinated by what f(x) does to me and also curious if others experience the same thing with their faves. Although putting into words what that "thing" is is impossible. Its probably just part of that kpop magic and why this music connects and speaks to so many people.

It's also great that you had SNSD for years and then later Twice and they are both about equal for you now. And even though I love Crayon Pop and Kara to death I know for sure they will never be on the same level as f(x) for me.

I definitely get what you mean. sometimes there is just something there with a particular group or artist. For me that group without a doubt is iKON. I just can’t explain how these boys make me feel.
