I do agree with you at this point. What k-pop culture in so far as KS is a reflection of it brings in adults is its insular nature. Let me explain. K-Pop like a few other genres is looked at as not serious or stupid by many teens and adults, at least in the US. This reinforces an us-them in group out group dynamic that fosters strong social bonds among k-pop fans. This is a fact with many sub-cultures. So why do adults listen to k-pop. I mean why do adults listen to Avril Lavigne when some of her songs (i.e., Girlfriend, What the Hell, Here's to Never Growing Up) rely on childishness. One song is about "liberation" one is about stealing someone's boyfriend and the other is about wanting to stay an eternal 16 year old party hard and have no responsibilities. Perhaps K-Pop feeds a similar need. Let me not delve too far into Social Theory as the deep end tends to turn into a worm hole of "reality doesn't exist", but put it like this: "The current world we live in is full of putting up with people's shit; dealing with toxic relationships; and just getting through the day." K-Pop provides a release and an escape of the responsibility of the real world into something more saccarine. I mean there are k-dramas that are literally based on entry level workers marrying the CEO of the company and we love it. Fantasy is nice especially when life sucks... and life sucks so very often.
