Do you collect DVDs/Blurays?

I still collect dvds. So many movies/shows will either go off a streaming service and I like having the stability of still being able to watch without having to purchase another streaming subscription. Plus I like the tangible feeling of dvd/bluray... although they used to make tv series box sets a lot prettier. Now things look slapped together. Although the conciseness of the hobbit 3 disc bluray is nice... @RandAlThor is probably gagging because he hates the lotr movies... but anyway. What say you.

hey the lotr movies look pretty...

i have many blu ray/ dvd's and some vhs.

i find the streaming services more annoying than useful.
more than 80% of the time i am settling instead of watching what i would want to.

don't get me started on how the good netflix originals are never released on dvd.. It sucks.

I think we can enjoy tv/movie adaptions if we consider them to be two different universes.. Like Stephen King never wrote IT to include Eddie and Richie being anything more than friends... but in the movie Richie is in love with Eddie, so I consider them two different universes and that helps to stave off my annoyance. But I still wont be watching the new LOTR series they are making since the trailer was bad.

my problem is if i am overly steeped in the books its way too hard to decoupple. say 5 to 10+ rereads.

for example Aragorn as a conflicted 90's guy with doubts about his worth and life is enough to make me homicidal add to that a puppet Frodo and i need to stay away from internet searches.

Don't even get me on elves at helms deep.

Comic books on the other had i was never as vested in so the x men for example does not bother me at all but my friends go crazy.

Enders game was not awful .. no way they were going to have a 6 year old and a 10 year old beat his bullies to death in 2 different times of his life.
( i do have to say that my personal fight philosophy is Ender / Sherman win the fight to such an extent that they never want to fight ya again.)

Battle field earth /starship troopers movies are horrific.

potter after 3 was a mess but heck she is a mess.

Some of her views are sound. I won't say which because this would be controversial.. but I agree. I think PoA was sort of the apex of her writing and the only reason why she let Pettigrew escape was the same reason she wrote harry without parents, "I don't think he would be able to do what he needed to do with parents..." Plus if Sirius had survived and Harry went to live with him I feel like that would be a terrible relationship since JKR said that Sirius wanted a mate in Harry and Harry wanted a father figure. The dysfunction is clearly there. But I cannot with GoF movie with those whack ass haircuts... Plus they f***d up Neville's character development in the movies to the point in DH where Neville kills Nagini and we're like what?!? if we've never read the books.

loosing Richard Harris was a bad blow to the movies.

Then book 4 went off the rails with spew ect and was bloated

Umbridge was about as evil of a government employee as you could ever find, and just so over the top.

Neville and Luna are fantastic characters who the movies did not get

Sir Ian McKellan was optioned for Dumbledore after him [and I think before], but he was like, "Richard Harris held homophobic views, so I won't be doing that..." Ironic though that in 2007 JKR made Dumbledore gay.

there are parts in the later movies where the books had dumbledore speak in his normal understated mild, quiet tone... Where the actor starts shouting.. Like, "Harry did you put your name in the Goblet of Fire." turns into HARRY DID YOU PUT YOUR NAME IN THE GOBLET OF FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i hated the books took me 4 -5 try's to read book 1 and i wikied the rest
lol. I had the same reaction to star wars and preferred star trek for years. tbh i still prefer Star Trek. But after watching the original star wars trilogy again a couple years ago I grew to like it.

GOT, the show, is pretty good. I only watched S1 because I was torrenting it at the time and forgot to start watching S2 when the entire series was on HBOMAX. But I'd say watch it if only for the fact that Daenarys in the tv series is very hot. I mean the only reason I watched the Jumanji remakes was because Karen Gillan is very sexy and is able to wear short shorts without looking trampy... which is very hard.

the script writers were probably sh*t and didn't inform the actor of how it should have gone down. I mean there are moments when minor characters should have been introduced. Like Charlie made a cameo in the book version of GOF and in PoA, yet... the only appearance he has in the movies is in a small clip of a newspaper.

Got throwing a kid off a tower while banging your sister was a bridge too far, add to that the just awful nominally good characters and by the end of book 1 i had maybe john to root for.

i would much rather read say malazan book of the fallen although those are weird as heck and i only read the main 10 book set. or something like black company.

Eps 4,5,6 and rogue 1 are pretty much the only good star wars movies. and 4,5,6 were 45 -39 years ago so much of it is dated or been reused by so many that it feels off to folks.

The new Jumanji remakes were just funny i liked the video game toon thing.

haven't seen rogue one, but I have heard that the new movies (i.e., the force awakens) were just really bad.

Yep and he famously refused to read the books. i can understand that in a 'normal ' role but when playing a character like that ya need to really have a feel of the world and who they are.

Snape for example is master class.

The first remake was good... but the sequel was just. I don't know. It just felt like it didn't belong anymore. It took too long to get off the ground and didn't give me the feel that the original remake did. But yeah the original [with Robin] and the remakes are completely different feels. Although they both seem to have a coming of age vibe..
