I believe it’s not mandatory to do, if you like the music or art of someone problematic that’s fine, but don’t have a superiority complex about being that woke or whatever. On the other side don’t bash someone for listening to their music or appreciating what they’ve done. I’ve seen both happen.

yes, literally anyone can be a bad person and if we did a background check on every artist everywhere we'd be left with no entertainment to consume. it makes no sense to have a superiority complex because of stanning someone "unproblematic" because those people do not exist. with that being said i support piracy especially in cases where a celebrity who you consider talented is a serious criminal so that you don't give them money.

Well, I don’t think you can seperate the artist from the art, since the artist is an undeniable part of it or even created it
So you can’t pretend the artist has nothing to do with it anymore

Listen. Seungri released a good album a couple years ago. I'll still listen to them. I'm not going to stop listening to TOP because he was caught with drugs [which in my opinion aren't really that big a deal]... Or the whole Irene non-issue. Literally any number of scandals that an idol/group/western artist is involved in. How many western artists [especially in the past] have done some pretty fucked up shit? I won't regale you with details, but look up Justin Bieber, Jimi Page, Ozzy Osbourne, Euronymous... And then at directors, writers and producers we have Tim Burton, Joss Whedon, James Gunn, and so on.

It seems like for me it's on a case-by-case. If I can't look at the artist's work the same anymore after whatever happened, I'm not gonna force myself to consume it.

Otherwise, I get over whatever happened and continue to consume their work.

I have no hard or fast rules. Sometimes I will be able to enjoy the music despite not agreeing with something the artist has done, other times it turns me off them and the music just doesn’t sound as good as it once did.

Yes, I do think people can still enjoy an artist's music as long as they distance themselves from reading about their personal issues in their lives.

But, if they do choose to not support that artist anymore because they feel betrayed or shocked by the mild to terrible news, that's fine too.
That means they won't have to stress about the tarnished artist and maybe move onto finding a new one that has similar music styles.
