Do not read further in this thread if you want to keep a surprise about what's in itzy's latest album, checkmate!
So i got the checkmate album for my birthday 😋 (no really?!?!?)!
At first, I was a bit surprised because I did put a lot of album on my gift list but not this one or any itzy album. I think my grandpa just asked for the latest kpop album tbh 😭
I'm still very happy and i'm gonna do like a review ig?? of the album and go through what was inside.
CD
I got the Lia version of the album and since I already have some twice albums and they're from the same company I thought it would be someone's face on the CD at random like in Formula of love or maybe even Lia since it's her version. The photo on the CD is just a blurry mass of white and beige. I think it's supposed to be her nails and part of her face. It still matches with the aesthetic of the album. On it there's the tracklist written with the name of the album and the name of the group. Now, my family doesn't really understand kpop and sometimes they act like it's a whole other world but they suggested we play the CD?? My jaw dropped, I did not even like Sneakers the only time I listened to it and now my whole family was going to? But I got a good surprise. Sneakers actually sounds much better on the CD! Is it the quality of sound that makes the production sounds cleaner or is there something magical in my grandpa's CD player? We'll never know! I was also surprised because maybe for the first time their bsides were consistently good for the whole album like damn JYPE put a lot of money in that one! It did skip WHAT I WANT to play the end of RAC3R again but when it ended it just continued normally and WHAT I WANT played so i'd have to listen a second time to see if the problem is CD or the CD player.
Posters
You get two posters. The first is a big one with the whole group on it. I thought putting the credits in the top left corner kinda... ruined it would be too strong for what i'm trying to say but y'know... It's so unnecessary too since this is all written on the top of the album and the last pages of the photobook... The second one is, from what i assume, one person at random. I got Chaeryeong! It's a much smaller poster, about the size of the Formula of love one but very cute! Chae is my ITZY bias so i'm happy!!
Photocards and others
There's two photocards inside, i got Chaeryeong and Yuna. I'm glad to finally be freed from the group photocard curse 🙏 They have some of my favorite photocard i've seen until now. There's also a random member holographic (?) square card for which i got Yeji! I really like the effect, you see like a rainbow when you move it around. Then there's a postcard for each member. I liked their poses for this. The lyric book is like something you unfold (don't know the name) and on one side there's some close up of body parts and the other side is the lyrics for all six songs + sneakers english version.
Photobook
There's no packaging or box or anything really around the photobook. I think it's in the same format as Red Velvet's Queendom album. The photos are really big because the photobook itself is really big. I don't really know how i'll store it in my library though since it doesn't seem to be able to stand on its own. I think the photos inside were really pretty. Of course there's a lot of Lia solo photos since it's her album but you still see some group photos. There's one photo who's really funny because the whole group is smiling and posing pretty while Ryujin almost has her eyes closed! I don't know what she was going for but it didn't really work haha! Also, looking at the digital album cover people might think that there's two concept for the photoshoot: the royal concept and the flashy street clothes concept. There was only the royal concept though (thankfully) but there is like two different concept where one is really queen/princess and one is just chic. Overall, I think the pictures were really high quality and I had fun looking through it.
