Mine is british english and south east asian.
I think mine match my culture quite well.

i guess it depends on the context. a white person having an ethnic name is weird. but the other way around i dont see a problem with it. a japanese person can be american and named emily, but a white person cannot be ethnically japanese.

some ppl choose to go by a different name bc theyre living in that country and want to make it easier to blend into the society and/or make it easier for native people to pronounce their name. thats a different thing entirely.

i think most people who do this don't realise this child will have to grow up with this name attached to them. don't even get me started on european kids having like japanese or korean names. i know a girl who would genuinely name her child after an anime character and i'm praying she never has kids...

Fact: My twin denies his asian heritage and never gave his daughter an asian middle name.
It was passed down to us two and also dads new children.
I find it so disrespectful honestly.

it depends. i don't think it's inherently strange or disrespectful; if someone gave their child an ethnic name from my culture i would be flattered. i think it's a nice way to appreciate a culture, as long as it's done w the right reasons and the name won't make your child stand out in a negative way.

tho obviously, if you name your child namjoon or naruto because you're obsessed with kpop/anime but dont actually study or care about korean/japanese culture outside of that, that's a bit....

Call me dated or old fashioned. But it was mostly used to distinguish us as eurasian australians
Without it people would think we're just euro descended.

And it also shows how much mum loves us.

And yes asians don't have middle names.
so it was kind of a thing we were picked on at school.

if you're of asian descent and like euro.
you would have a western name and japanese name, for example

I don't have a problem with it. I just find it cringey. Especially Koreans picking up English names out of the blue because it's considered to be "trendy". I'm not sure if any other Asian countries do this, but it's what I've discovered.

i mean, i know (and am friends with) several people who don't have desi names. but that's due to their religion, not their parents thinking "omg it would be so cool if our kid had a western name!!" and some don't even have family names/middle names that could be considered desi.

colonization too plays a huge role. think of goan people who have names like "fernandes", "menezes", and the iconic "anthony gonsalves". they may not necessarily personally be christian, but they have typical portuguese names due to portuguese colonization.

though i heard one of the sixth graders in my school was named "rihanna" - and i hope it isn't after the pop artist
