I used to have the Las Vegas Edition of Monopoly (the 2003 version) that my aunt bought me from an Avon magazine (she used to sell Avon products back then).

It's all about profiting through collaborations benefiting both companies- the publisher of Monopoly and whomever.

So officially licensed versions like Star Wars, etc. were made to gain more interest in obtaining new consumers.
