I never have because I have bad social anxiety but I really want to try it and I'm reaching a point where I think I can gain the courage to do it soon.

As long as I bring my headphones I think I can do it the only thing stopping me is myself ​

I've seen people eating alone at restaurants who facetime/video call their friends and I think that could be a good stepping stone before jumping right into it!

That wouldn’t be a bad idea. I think I would call my mom cause she’s usually the person I go out with and I don’t really have friends

once I got used to it, it became a treat yourself kind of day. Dining alone is scary but once you get the hang of it. You realize it’s fun. If you’re an introvert, you don’t have to worry about holding a convo. All the food is to yourself. You can use any excuse to keep yourself busy. Book, music, fake a phone call.
If the restaurant has a bartop, I recommend sitting there first. It’s somehow less stressful.

Although, would people try and talk to me if I'm alone at a bartop? What has your experience been? I try and give off the most standoffish aura when I'm out alone, but some people just don't see the invisible brick wall and try anyway.

Bartenders might, but they have a good idea how to read people and leave the ones who rather not talk alone. They just bother you about refills and taking your order.
As for others, most I find aren’t that ballsy unless they wanna compliment you or hit on you. For the second scenario, I never dine alone at night which is when that’ll happen most often.

back in highschool i used to go to this restaurant alone 3 times a week. my mom made a good deal with them and i would go eat there before going home. and more recently while working, i used to go sometimes at night and watch my football team. not my favorite thing to do, cause i also have social anxiety, but gotta challenge urself ig

Tbh I have this fear but in a different way, because of my face blindness I fear running into people and not recognizing them, then having them think I’m rude for not waving or something. But that’s an everywhere fear, not just restaurants.

No I wouldn’t because anxiety but also cuz it’s weird? I’ve never seen someone eat at a restaurant alone here in the Netherlands. But maybe it’s just a cultural difference.

sure, i might not go to restaurants often but don't see a reason why i wouldn't do it alone. whenever i go alone i see a lot of people do it only by themselves as well.
