i think it's a pretty good idea to avoid young kids drowning just executed badly in some parts

yea ofc, i just wish the teachers were a little more understanding of 10-14 year olds who are starting puberty and might not feel comfortable getting undressed. my younger sister once told me how one of her classmates didn't want to swim because she was insecure about her body and the teacher just mocked her, who does that..

Me too! Only until age 13 tho

I also did triathlons from 7 - 13 and I was always the best at swimming out of the 3, but biking was the most fun for me, and running was the one I was going slower than I should have bc I'm actually fast but wasn't good at pacing

triathlons are hard 😱 this is impressive

that is absolutely disgusting. school is supposed to provide a safe space for kids to learn and grow.

no, PE lessons at the swimming pool were so traumatising they made me hate swimming and never had an opportunity to learn it by myself. there are no beaches in my area and most people hang out by the pool just to sit here and not for swimming purposes though so it was never an issue for me.

in belgium it's common for schools to give swimming lessons. i like the idea, but the way teachers would scold kids who didn't want to swim for whatever reason (phobias, insecurities, religious reasons,...) was pretty messed up. it shouldn't be forced on anyone, especially kids

same here, in my school it wasn't just lessons but we actually were graded on how well we could swim and those who couldn't were expected to just learn it in a day or two. terrifying
