That all the songs sound the same? This one I don’t understand. There’s so many sub genres within kpop, to listen properly to multiple kpop songs and say they all sound the same, I think they need their ears checked, but that might just be me. What do you guys think?

Whoever said that must have only scratched the surface. Get into b-sides, get into groups from different companies, get into soloists. There are many songs that don't sound alike.

Tbh they didn’t even get to the first verse of most songs, they listened to like 2 seconds, decided the song sucked, and skipped to the next song on my playlist
Like their opinion is definitely not valid, but im just wondering if anyone with more experience has this opinion too.

Well, that's something I've heard often from people unfamiliar with the Korean language in general. My mom has said that about multiple foreign-language songs as her ear is unfamiliar with the sounds/phonetics.

She has not been able to differentiate between Korean, Japanese, and Chinese. They're very obviously different, but to the "untrained" ear...

ETA: I didn't actually answer the question, lol. No, it's not. It's an "ignorant" ("uninformed") criticism/opinion of K-Pop.

that doesn't make sense to me at all since kpop is not just "pop" like most people think. yeah the more popular songs that get played often, like dynamite for example, might give a bad rep to kpop but it's not like that at all. just by staying on the surface, you're not gonna get the whole picture. if i said the same thing about western music, that would be wrong as well

Most recent American pop music is less varied

I can’t speak to whether it’s more or less varied because I barely listen to American pop at all
But I definitely feel like kpop has variety both now and back when the person “listened” to my music and said that

I don't listen to much either, but I try to alternate between an artist that releases songs in english (the loophole is some kpop artists did) and kpop every time I listen to albums! Bc after all I can't ignore western music entirely and forget I'm American after all

It's not recent stuff tho, I start with the oldest stuff, and it's mostly older artists, not those who got popular recently, so a lot is even from before I was born LOL

wth no lol...kpop music is very diverse. i think people often mistake kpop as a genre when in reality it's an entire industry

If you take the entirety of the scene as a whole, of course no - a cute girl group sounds nothing like an R&B solo male singer etc, but I don’t often see people make those critiques. Instead I often see lots of people complain with statements like “nowadays all boy groups look and sound the same” or “there’s too many girl crush groups”, and I can see those points of view.
