Are you the type to ask for help immediately or to never ask for help? (1 Viewer)

The podcast I'm listening to this morning is about asking for help. One of the hosts says they're the type to ask for help even before they tried, and they told a story about how her wife has explained dozens of times how to use their remote, but she still asks her wife for help. Another host says she's the type to announce that an issue has been resolved, but never ask for help until it gets to that point.



I think I'm in the middle. I try really hard to not ask for help until I've tried to solve it myself, because I know the first host's scenario would drive me crazy; I would absolutely hate dealing with someone who supposedly "can't learn" how to use the remote. But I'm not the type to never ask for help either. If I genuinely can't figure it out, I'll say "I tried X, Y, and Z" or "I read these articles but still can't find the answer." So I try to make it as easy as possible for other people to help me.

I'm in the middle. I like to struggle against a problem for a bit to see if I can figure it out. Then, if I can't quite crack it, ask others at that point.

If I struggle and do get it, I've learned a lot more than just having someone show me how to do it.

Not that I have an independent mindset.
I don't want to be annoying, needy, or bug too many people. Plus if there's no one familiar around, my social anxiety says "nope."

I can feel that. It's not the same for me exactly, but I know what you mean by seeing your default settings and how those tendencies lead to some unhappy outcomes. 💔 But seeing yourself clearly helps! You can't change what you can't see

I try to solve everything by myself. Only in extreme situations I ask for help.

Unfortunately I made the experience that people often don't wanted my help or even asked me why I interfere. So I stopped asking. If someone asks me for help, he will get help. But people need to ask.
