while most white people aren’t inherently racist themselves they tend to have racist viewpoints and beliefs.

especially with the whole “we can experience racism” type thing.. what you can experience is prejudice.. you will never experience the same type of racism as poc, never even a fraction of that. feel free to respectfully debate, if y’all can even handle that…

Even as a white person who faced nasty remarks and bigotry on my ethnicity (NOT RACE) before, I can confidently say it still isn’t racism bc systemically I’m not suffering like poc 🤷 idk why it’s so hard for other white ppl to digest that we just don’t understand the real malice in racism poc face and how it doesnt compare to “mayonnaise bastard” or some jokes like it

I think most white people who think they were the victims of racism actually just encountered rude people in Western countries, but it is possible for white people to be the victims of targeted systemic racism but it is rare. I have several friends who are White Zimbabweans & their parents and relatives were targeted between the 1990s and mid 2010s by the Mugabe regime explicitly because of their race and left Zimbabwe for South Africa, Australia, and Namibia along with most of the remaining white population.

However, I'd caution against the notion that "white people cannot experience racism" belief because who "is" and "isn't" white begins to veer into eugenics & discredited race science. You don't want to sound like Whoopi Goldberg describing the Holocaust as "white people killing each other" which is such an illiterate reading of the centuries of pogroms, persecution, and discrimination against the Ashkenazim, Sephardim, and other Jews encountered after their arrival into Europe culminating in the "final solution" during WWII.

I’m not understanding the last paragraph… while in other countries where racism/slavery wasn’t dominant in their culture i’d agree with it, but as an american the belief that you can be racist to white people on the same level that a poc experienced it is inherently wrong and is essentially just prejudice.

I agree with you completely that on a societal level white people in America cannot experience the same level of prejudice that poc in America does. My point was there are many different groups of people where these labels do not neatly fit onto them & I think its wrong to try to force them onto people who would feel uncomfortable with these labels. If you ask a group of 50 Jews, Assyrians, Persians, & Moroccans living in America whether they consider themselves to be white or a poc you'll get a variety of answers. All of those groups can be persecuted in America but are all labelled as white by the US Census Bureau despite a variety of opinions from outside and inside those ethnic groups on what they should be classified.

My TLDR point is that race and ethnicity are complicated topics there are no clear boundaries of who is "white" and who is a "poc" and I don't see the benefit nor reason to define what communities are in a racial lens if the makes sense. I understand what you mean and agree with most of it just not all of it.

Yeah, some people get very emotional about these topics which I understand, but I grew up white in the black belt of the USA. I have been having conversations about racism and white supremacy since before pre-school.

i just don't like privileged white people who've never gone through shit or any sort of genuine discrimination in their life start talking about how they've experienced racism before as if its anything even remotely near to the deeply rooted shit POC face day to day and have to smile and ignore because its become so normalized.

There’s the ethnic name racism too, like if you don’t have a name, first and last, that sounds white, you’re less likely to get a job, compared to someone with the exact same resume but a white sounding name. Even after like phone interviews, and you can speak with like a “normal American accent” but once they find out your name. It’s been shown in economics, name discrimination is very real

Like they don’t even have to see you to be racist
