I don’t know if you guys have heard about this before, it’s not super new. But in summary, a lodge place was holding onto a group of UK students passports. Somehow they accidentally threw them into the dumpster, where the trash collector picked them up and destroyed them. One thing I love is they said they’re putting new protocols in place to prevent this from happening and I’m like what are these protocols, requiring employees to look into boxes before chucking them in the trash?

The students didn’t throw them out. They were given to the accommodation place and the accommodation place threw them out

On the up side they get to stay in NH and ski for free while getting free new passports at teh very least i would assume.

but that is a Huge mistake. They should have been in a safe to begin with.

When i have had to leave one they were locked up. but most time i can keep it with me.

They didn’t, they needed to go to the British Consulate so they could get documentation to come back to the UK. They did spend a day in NYC I believe, but they also didn’t have unlimited funds ofc so while they had some sightseeing I’m guessing they also spent a long while waiting for everyone to do their paperwork, and when they go back they’ll have extra paperwork to fill out to get a new passport (or maybe their parents will. Either way someone will). I’m pretty sure they didn’t receive full on actual passports as part of emergency documentation. So yeah some upsides and some downsides.

I don’t even know. Either the guy is a moron who decides “hey box I don’t recognize, I’ll throw it out” or he hates people from the UK and is like “oh UK passports time to chuck them out”. I’m hoping the first but either one is really something

Well tbh flying to NYC would take longer than driving most likely? It’s not like New Hampshire has a whole lot of airports, not sure where they could fly from that would be more reasonable than a bus. Like yeah a bus is long but so would be flying when taking everything into account.

Yeah, just getting a passport can be different levels of tedious. Getting emergency documentation in a foreign country? That must be so so frustrating

But to answer ur question that might be a good idea, to look through everything u destroy.

At my work place my boss relegiously stores documents so nothing important gets thrown away. I have to check with him if im throwing anything paper or document in the trash.

They could store old files into bins and then recycle them at once when a bunch accumulated. That way they dont throw aeay anything immediately.

The funny thing it was supposed to be 42, there were 42 passports in total. The last dude didn’t give the passport in time to be destroyed, they noticed the box was missing when the 42nd passport was given to them
