It’s kind of hard to argue that wearing a shirt with a guy wearing a shirt that had a swastika on it is totally free from nazi affiliations. Many people know what the symbol means, and those who wear it/choose it are in a way showing support for wearing/using the symbol despite it’s hurtful connotations. No the shirt doesn’t say “I love nazis Hitler for life uwu” but having it on a shirt is already sending a message. The difference would be if it was a shirt with Indian origins and connotations but this isn’t.

The Sex Pistols were an English Punk Rock band, the very reverse of a Nazi band. Problem is: How many young people listening to Twice know the Sex Pistols?

It was a rather stupid move. There are many inoffensively shirts of the Sex Pistols and even Sid Vicious.

Do you have a source/reasoning for that? I didn't assume that he was a nazi for wearing it, I assumed it was for shock value/a fuck you symbol to certain people (not necessarily Jews). Nor can I find anything that matches what you're saying, but I haven't looked that hard. And either way if you have to research a person and their views to understand a message that's they're putting out to the world that might be a sign that a different shirt might be a good idea. That applies to the original shirt and the shirt of the person wearing a shirt.

Without a doubt the swastika and nazi regalia was a commonly used symbol as fashion accessory among punks and band members in the early days. Malcolm Mclaren sold replica nazi regalia in his shop. The destroy tshirt designed by Vivien Westwood and Mclaren had as its background a large swastika. In the film Rock 'N'Roll Swindle Sid vicious is regularly seen wearing a swastika tshirt and for some reason a pair of briefs with one on. Siouxsie was (in)famous for her nazi look often wearing swastika armbands and regalia playing with nazi imagery and other members of punk bands like Captain Sensible and Johnny Rotten wore nazi gear.

I guess it more has to do with the 70s punk ideology of wanting to be provocative/controversial. Sid Vicious wanted to get a reaction and have notice come to those symbols. So it was about trying to use the symbol for a different purpose than the original intent.

But you are very right. It takes a lot of research to find that out, and it would be smarter to just not wear a shirt with that symbol at all.

The pictures have been taken down from Instagram, so they obviously realized the mistake in posting them. Hopefully they learned that lesson for the future.

I'm aware. I don't think everyone wearing a swastika is a die hard nazi. Some people want to use it as shock value which it imo not much better, using a symbol associated with suffering of certain people to get attention isn't great either lets be real. Might be better for everyone if you get attention for a talent or whatever you have rather than getting attention because you don't seem to care about the sensitivity of a topic like this, especially as this was closer to the Holocaust where more people who experienced it were alive. Some people didn't even get an apology from Germany until decades after he wore that shirt, they had to suffer in silence often while they use that symbol to be "edgy". And like I said before, if a shirts message needs research and explanation to not be as offensive maybe picking another would be best.

By the way, Lemmy (Motörhead) often wore an Iron Cross and other 'problematic' items. He collected WW2 memorabilia, but he definately wasn't a Nazi.

the only things i know about the dude on her shirt is that he was charged for killing his girlfriend and that freddie mercury called him sid ferocious (i do not seek more knowledge on that man) but there are 0 logical reasons why a grown adult would wear a swastika in public in the year 2023. idgaf whether you want to "provoke" or create shock value, do better.

There's always a huge disconnect when it comes to these controversies in that i-fans will gloss over something Koreans find controversial and then k-fans will do the exact same when it comes to something i-fans find controversial because it's usually a case of being taught about one side or the other unless you want to go deeper into history yourself.

From what I've seen of Twice I don't think Chaeyoung holds incredibly far right beliefs that both Hitler and Trump are on her bingo card so I do think it's just ignorance however both JYP and Chaeyoung should still apologise which I did see Chaeyoung post an apology on her Instagram
